| | | BIG sound MY guitarist and I are working on a little side project at the moment, kinda super heavy doom/drone a la Melvins/Sunn/Earth.
Our big problem at the moment is capturing "bigness" on recordings. We seem perfectly capable of making amps and stuff make real big noise, and that's pretty cool, but, just can't seem to get it when we record the stuff to computer. As for the setup, I record my bass via a Behringer DI box, and Carsten plays his guitar through a mic'd up Fender DeVille 4x10 combo with a Shure SM-57. We play in C, use neck pickups, big fuzzy distortions etc.
Any tips for either A- getting the "front end" right eg. mics, techniques etc; or B - using post-production techniques to kinda expand the sound?
Also: anyone know if a Marshall JCM800/Plexi head would run ok into an Ampeg 4ohm 8x10 cab? Or would they have to run into an 8ohm cab?
Cheers. |

| | | You need to mic the bass cab to get big bass sound. And multi track so there's not just one guitar...
And record 24 bit, 48kHz. |

| | | I think I'm just gonna give up and just mic up my washing machine, and stick a sub-harmonic plugin on it.
That would be kinda cool.
Right? |

| | Have you tried adding a "chorus" effect? Another idea would be to use a "hall" reverb effect along with a quick closing gate effect on the compressor. (Sort of like how they did the drums in "Some like it hot" and "Caught a lite sneeze" |
