What can I do to get my groove back? I'm very happy with my life right now and it's killing will my to make angsty music. This is shit for several reasons...

1. Pop songs are shitty.
2. Can't be bothered trying to get into the miserable mind frame.
3. Can't be bothered writing down more reasons.

Should I turn to writing dance tracks instead? GIVE ME MY GROOVE BACK!

Listen to music that makes you sad and reflective. Watch movies that make you cry. Look at pictures of people you miss that you can't see anymore. Think about all the things that could have been... that aren't.

You'll get your groove back. Everyone goes through periods of not being able to write anything. i know it's frustrating but unless you've spent a year staring off into space trying to write a song yet have remained unsuccessful I think you'll be fine.

Yeah, thanks. It's just that I used to write a song nearly every day. Now I'm lucky to write one a month. Quality of song writing has improved, however. But I liked writing lots of songs.

Sometimes I really can´t do anything new for months. I try to listen a to a lot of new music during those times, come up with more insane theories, get drunk more, untill it comes back.
I used to write lots of songs, everyday, like you, and it takes few of them to come up with something I like, now it takes me a lot longer and I do it a lot less often. It´s sad but I don´t even have the time to sit down and play music as often as I´d like to.
It helps when I meet someone that´s a good influence musically or has interesting ideas.

I hate this thread. whenever i see it, 'A Jar Labelled Small' starts playing in my head.

Now it's in my head. AHAH.

Songwriting should be a natural process. If you try to make "angsty" music, it won't be as authentic.

Besides, nothing wrong with a few "pick-me-up" songs.

Sit down in front of your 4x12 crosslegged, reach up to the amp and turn the Vol. from 0 to 7, or 8 & with your guitarra give a walloping pummel of a downstroke with this fretted..> after the decibels dissipate, and if the breeze from the push of the speakers don't knock you out of your sorrid funk, then it may just be hopeless and time to play dance tunes (caution: but do not follow the footsteps {figuratively AND literally} of a certain pop entertainer as of late). If this little experiment is a success you'll have a grin plastered on your face from remembering what cacophonic dissonant warbled overtones do to your synapses.
