i'm musically retarded, but the five or six open chords i know have provided me with years of satisfaction. i'm addicted to G chord and one other easy one. i forget which one, but going back and forth between the two of them is fun like masturbating.

a scale is just a set of notes which follows a certain pattern of whole and half steps. they determine the notes and chords of a scale and what will sound in tune melodically.

you're probably in the scale of G major, that might be a good one to look up for starters.
