| | | 4 track makes alien noises after converting to cassette playback? Ok when I record my 4 track tape onto a normal cassette, directly thru the 4 track, after i play back the tape i recorded on in the stero, it plays back as slow motion alien noises? this is the first time its done this EVER. i just put songs onto a tape last week and it was fine. i tried switched cassettes, checking wires, nothing seems to fix it. anyone have any HELPFUL idea's what it could be?

| | | WTF. You're recording at high speed on your 4-track and the tape deck in your stereo is playing at normal speed.
Change the speed to normal on your 4 track. |

Change the speed to normal on your 4 track. | that was nowhere near bitchy and condescending enough. TWO STARS.
quit using your 4 track, burn it, learn how to use cool edit pro, then kill yourself and burn yourself. |

I think we should all hold hands and record Kumbaya at high speed on 4-track. |

Change the speed to normal on your 4 track. | see I thought this too. I checked those and they all seemed correct. I will have to double check on the stero tho. thanks for the insight.

| | | Have you tried cleaning the tape deck with a cotton bud?
Strangely, my 4 track has started making weird noises too. The words 'My 4 track's broken' sound like an annoying cathphrase to me now, since it's happened so many times, with 2 different machines.
There goes my chances of being the next lo-fi troubadour. Hot damn.

| | | Yeah it was so strange cause it happened for no reason. All setting where exactly the same, nothing was moved or anything since my last session. Now, all I get is aliens. I will try checkin speeds and see if I missed anything anywhere, and cleaning out the tape deck.

But why are you wanting to play a 4 track tape on your stereo anyway? They record differently. 4 track uses one side of the tape and all 4 tracks available. Stereo tape gives 2 x per side. You probably know this but I want to confirm why you're bothering playing it to stereo. Shouldn't you just be playing back on the 4 track so you can record the bounce on your stereo or have I read your post wrong and this is what you're doing. |

| | | Get an old version of Sound Forge off BitTorrent and run a cable from your 4-track into the microphone jack in back of your computer. I have had excellent results this way. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
