I would consider myself an atheist, but I am open to the possibility of God. I wouldn't describe myself as agnostic, because it's too much on the fence, too much in the middle for me.

Maybe we are mixing definitions, and if so I apologise, but I would see an agnostic as someone who would say, well, we will never know, and an atheist as someone who says, well, based on the evidence at the moment, it's pretty unlikely isn't it? But let's always continue to explore, discuss and keep our minds open. For me the arguments and the evidence are so much more reasonable and compelling that there is no god. God, I wish this wasn't the case.

I really enjoyed reading Turings post. The only thing I disagree with is the never knowing. But I like the idea of using spiritualism for fun.

For some bizarre reason I started reading this thread at the last post, I'll go and read it through properly later on.

Agnostics are more likely to say "maybe" or "we will never know"
Athiests reject the possibilty of god(s) and wotnot completely. They would never say "maybe"

Well, there are weak and strong atheists. Weak atheism is basically what Blackmilk describes, whereas strong atheism is more like what you're describing. You can even be an agnostic atheist, when it comes down to it.

Negative and positive atheism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pretty good link on atheistic categorization.

Anyway, Blackmilk, it can be rational to embrace the irrational but that doesn't make the irrational rational.

I'm not sure that's strictly true though, or at least, that's not true for me, and I am sure, many atheists out there.

Improbable, but not impossible, as they say. Maybe this is new atheism?
