I'm kinda confused as to why people think there has to be one or the other. I don't believe in a traditional god, but why do people think that God cant work through evolution. Do they think he's too stupid?

I think it's because a god that keeps the universe ticking over in a way that is indistinguishable from the way physics is supposed to operate seems a bit pointless. I guess it's because we're tied up in the idea of a vengeful or worshipped god that needs to be appeased, rather than an intelligence that doesn't really care what we do. If god created man by triggering a process of evolution, it's hard to argue that he also created us "in his own image", for example.

I suppose that's a good argument, but I don't take the bible word for word. I don't consider myself a christian anyway. And I've never heard any christian use that argument, unfortunately.

It wasn't really meant as a Christian argument. But most definitions of a god seem to point to him being a designer. There's no real way to tell if a god that's indistinguishable from the basic forces of physics exists or not. But it would be kind of strange to believe in one in that case.

Well, I believe in more of a pantheist theology, so all is everything and everything is all. For me it's hard to believe in the whole god created man in his image thing and easier to believe in evolution due to that.
