buddhist altars/shrines??

what the actualy word for these? like at home mine shrines that you can chant to and worship to? when you go into asian restaurants or businesses they have them by the doors and have buddhas, flowes, pictures, and offering, of food. whats the name?

I don't think there is a specific word for them, but Buddhists generally refer to them as "shrines" rather than "altars". I think that has something to do with how the definition of altar relates to divinity and sacrifice.
