I'm and introvert wrapped in the misperception ofbeing an extrovert. Many people are not able to be themselves in a group who thinks introversion is geekish or nerdish.

Why would people perceive you as an extrovert if you weren't one? Extroversion and introversion relate to the way one presents oneself to the outside world, consciously or otherwise.

How could someone see a person who does not express their emotions and ideas vocally or visibly in public, and perceive them to be someone who does?

I can pretend to be extroverted if required. Like at work and stuff. It's called "The Mask" when in reality I am dying inside whilst making ridiculous small talk and having to spend more than one hour near my workmates.

Yeah, I pretend too. Basically I am introverted, though every now and then I have extrovert phases that may last from days to months. I find introvert and extrovert depend on your company a lot as well; people in the UK were more likely to see me extroverted than Americans. I'm sure if I went to Israel I'd be seen as a complete recluse. They're supposedly the most extroverted nation in the world.

The article is somewhat accurate in my opinion, but yer title is not. Cuz .. ya ... somebody quiet could be seething with hatred or full of kindness... they can be bland and shallow, or full of emotion and deep insights ... I'm a little skeptical of the article in that it kinda reads like a pep talk. It says granted there are SOME introverts that are shy or anti-social. I would say that MOST are ....

What I am depends on who I am with. But the writer sure right about the recharging thing ... and the small talk thing ... though sometimes I hear myself doing it, as I am doing it, and marvel how phoney it sounds ....

Soph just needs to find some way to prove that he's both sensitive and better than others every single day. In this case, he's taken the fact that he broadcasts his every thought to the world in general, ignored it, and decided that being an introvert sounds more interesting. If the dude's introverted away from his keyboard, and by all accounts he isn't, he should maybe consider the same on KR.

When Soph says he is 'being silenced' on KR and is going away, not to play anymore, we can be assured he will return as he always has. Perhaps he takes a break to 'recharge his batteries', as the article describes. We tried to plug Soph in to the introvert typecast according to the article's characteristics. It wasn't a fit at all. It's very apparent why Soph would want to be an introvert, and why would anyone not want to be an 'introvert' as described in the article? You can be it all as an introvert. An introvert can even be as socially adept as an extrovert, just for not as long a period as an extrovert. If you want to be like Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Julia Roberts or Tom Cruise, or Tiger Woods, etc., then, you want to be an 'Introvert'. Does Sophia_ want to be like Albert? Does a bear shit in the woods??

However, given the definitions of an Introvert in the article, we from the 'Coffee Emporium', see Sophia_ as a strong Extrovert. He "thrives on small talk", and is "not a good listener", and needs to be in the spotlight like an extrovert. Perhaps the goal of becoming an Introvert would be the real way to 'Gain Wisdom' for Sophia_ ; and he could continue to be misperceived as being 'arrogant'--for a new different subtle reason, as the article says many introverts are.

What a wonderful New Year's Resolution for Sophiadin_: Becoming a Wise Introvert ! I think he might be able to do it. What do you think??

The article says introverts are perceived as being arrogant because they refuse to join in to the socialisation. Nobody can accuse Sophiadin of this type of arrogance, for sure !!! Sophia_ 's extroverted behaviour defines the 'socialisation' here at the cafe. Many of us become Coffee Emporium 'Introverts' and keep clear of the 'Big Head Todd' Programs.

Introverts don't have much of a choice whether or not they join in on the 'socialising' of Sophia's lectures. It takes a true strong extrovert to have two way socialisation with Sophia_. Extroverts must be an endangered species here at Sophia_'s Coffee Emporium. I've noticed the extroverts come out much more when he stays away. At least you CAN notice them when he is absent.

In fact the only introverts I've seen that present themselves as similar to a Sophiadin_ type of 'Introvert' here at the 'Coffee Emporium' have been drinking introverts. They have to come in that way already as we serve no alcohol here, only caffeine and herbal concoctions. Sophia_ appears to be a natural drinking Introvert, high on herbal tea.

This is why I'm glad you're around, Ranchorificia. You offer background on someone who depends on anonymity.
