What is there not to trust about an Atheist? My boyfriend's dad is atheist, I trust him with anything? He's full of morals and he's a really respectful man. And like Kesh said; what you see is what you get.

i have a definite mistrust of nihilists, anarchists, republicans, libertarians, and atheists as well as christians and muslims and most other religions.

i only trust people who hqave a belief system based on cooperation with humanity and the betterment of humanity as a whole above all else. wiccians, buddhists are ok. agnostics generally tend to be ok.

but i dont trust them because they are atheist; they have to show me that they have a moral code that includes cooperation with humanity.

many atheists are swayed into a randian style of thinking.

I have no wave. I think it´s funny that people take everything I type seriously.
Anyway, this whole thread is pointless, I don´t see how being deserving of trust has anything to do with religion or the lack of. There are going to be liars and cheaters everywhere, and there are going to be reliable people of all kinds.
Now, when most of America say they don´t trust atheists it´s no surprise.

maybe yes and maybe no. I think this is generally true though I don't really believe that most religious people are harboring some deep nastiness. but it's no coincidence that christians generally have christian children and muslims generally have muslim children, etc. I was raised by "atheists" so it was something that came very naturally to me. Although I don't think I was a stupid teenager ("intellectually" speaking; I definitely did my fair share of foolish things) I didn't put too much thought into my atheism. I remember thinking (and I have some pretty solid proof that I thought this ) that if there was a god he was a complete fuck up and not worth anyone's worship.

sorry to ramble on here, but one of the most disturbing experiences of my adult life was about 4 years ago when my grandfather died at a catholic hospital (he wasn't religious as far as I know, he was just there because it was the best hospital for heart issues). Anyways, the whole thing was disturbing, but it really bothered me that there were nuns around the place trying to comfort people and I really just wanted them to leave me and my family the fuck alone. But right after my grandfather died, we went into the hospital room where he was and one of the nuns asked my dad if he would like her to lead a prayer and he said yes. It was a triple whammy. To have my grandfather die, to see my father cry for the first time in my life (and he's been through some heavy shit so that's saying something), then to hear my father accept religion if only for an instant. I'm pretty sure it was as disturbing to me as it would have been for a lifelong religious person to up and say to their kids that they didn't belive in god anymore.

I said this in a rep but it's worth repeating because there are some of those kinds of atheists floating around in this forum.

why anarchists? they have a bad reputation but when it comes down to it they do believe in a system based on cooperation with humanity, etc. If I could choose which people I lived with on a desert island it's what I'd prefer too. Just as I've never needed religion to tell me what's right or wrong, I've never needed govt. to either. if you trust atheists (though I'm not sure you said you did) it makes sense that you would trust anarchists because I've never met one yet who wasn't an atheist. no gods, no masters.

if you were just trying to say that you don't trust anyone in general, well I might be with you on that. :/ I never really thought about trust in religious terms until this thread. i.e. I've never thought to myself "that person is nice but they're a christian so I don't trust them". There is a certain type of religious person that I don't trust but I don't think their religion has anything to do with it, I think they'd probably be assholes if they were atheists too.

trust is different to being good. i trust an atheist to be a bad guy if he's a bad guy much more than i trust a christian to do the same

course these are all generalities

At least you know your comment was pointless. The thread and your comment rather cancel each other out then, don't they?
