Thumbs up Why Christianity is really cool

I know it sucks when there's all these extremists making Christians look bad but the truth is, is those extremists are wrong & misrepresent Christians. The Old Testament is a little harsh but it's the New Testament that Christians are supposed to follow. When Christ arrived he taught to love everyone & to judge no one! & there’s nothing wrong with that

So the next time you have some psycho screaming at you saying you're going to hell, you tell them "ahem but dosen't Christ say no one can judge me but God?"

You're a teacher, is it hip with the kids? Do they all wear "jesus is my homeboy" shirts and the like? In fact I'm sure they do, you don't even need to answer that.

do you guys experience this madness we have in the US every Christmas time when there's one hot item that all the kids want and parents have to beat each other up at the stores to get the last one? I bet this year it's gonna be bibles.

why do some people think atheism is so fucking hip and smart? i feel sad for people who just try to explain everything away with "fact." it's really arrogant to assume that we know the first fuckin thing about the space we're in.

personally, i find myself much happier when i try to enjoy life and just... (try to) be kind to the people around me. some people spread love and embrace miracles, while other people just talk numbers and figures all day. if i was gonna have faith in either of the two, i'm thinking all the numbers in the world won't stand up to the mystery of whatever the fuck put us here. but somehow, i'm pretty sure love stands up to anything and everything.

uhh so yeah. i think christianity is fucking awesome. sadly, most people take it out of context. kinda like communism. anyway, i think jesus as a "saviour" is a pretty dumb concept too. (sorry, the whole resurrection thing is nice and cute, but it just sounds like a nice story.) but that doesn't mean jesus can't be a great role model for those of us who wish to be more kind, more humble, and more loving people.

I don't think atheism is hip. I don't think religious beliefs (or a lack of them) should be something that people cling to based on whether they're "cool" or not. I also resent the fact that people join kr with the sole intention of spreading their propaganda, whether it be their band, their religion, whatever. At least post for a while and pretend you came here as a normal person?

Jesus was definitely a good role model. I'd like it very much if people tried to emulate him. The problem with most Christians is that they don't. My number one complaint with most Christians is that they believe they have the right to judge, which is why it was laughable for the thread starter to say all you have to do is tell them only god can judge you. I have done that and they should know that anyway, but usually the ones who are most vocal about their religion are the ones who are most judgemental. There are many christians who aren't that way and its unfortunate that the others give them a bad name.

-sigh-

herekitty, you have no idea what you're talking about. I didn't join KR to spread my faith I just thought I'd start in the spirituality section. If you could read you'd know the point was that Christianity isn't a bad faith, it's extremisms that give it a bad name. I'm not here to "save" anyone but I'M sick of people judging me because of my faith! I don't run around with a bible yelling "THE END IS NEAR YOU'RE ALL GOING TO HELL!!!" Christianity is cool & REAL Christians don't judge, REAL Christians love everyone & people shouldn’t be so quick to hate on Christ because some jerks like to take the Old Testament to extremes, & that's the point.

touche.

however, I would like to say that you have (as far as I know) never lived in the bible belt and some of the religious folks down here take their religion a bit more seriously than you are probably used to seeing. There's a church on every corner, usually right next to a liquor store. I never really understood what people meant by the "bible belt" until I lived in California for a few years. And when I say some of the religious people take it seriously, I mean in the worst, most judgemental way. It's really not fair for me to judge all of christianity based on my experiences and I don't think that I do but I can see how you'd get that impression based on this thread and others. :shrugs:

well no one here was judging you for anything until you made this thread. I'm probably the only one judging you on that in fact and I make no apology for it. I feel the same way about people who join and immediately start requesting tons of music in the mp3 thread, the same way about people who join just to give their band link, etc. your religion really doesn't have jackshit to do with it.
by the way, I can read and your ideas are not particularly unique or original. If you'd have looked around a bit more you probably could have found a thread discussing christianity and used that instead. I would say sorry for jumping to the conclusion that just because you only joined a week ago and started this thread you're trying to use kr exclusively as some sort of pulpit, but the fact is that I'm not sorry in the slightest. deal with it.

congratulations on not being a total psycho. I normally reserve my congratulations for bigger achievements but if that's all you've got, I guess I'll take it.

oh, I get it. Apparently you can't read. I said I don't think it should matter if christianity (or any religion or belief) is cool. That's a pretty sad way to go through life. What happens if it suddenly becomes "uncool"?

uhhhhhhhh.... i used to live in Victorville (California). haha, if that's not "bible belt," i don't know what is.
there were hundreds, literally, of churches. churches of this or that denomination. and there was definitely some spookiness to it. but i've sat in on some of their services and really just enjoyed the fact that plenty of those people were just looking for a little comradery and hope and kind eyes and stuff.

AND. i currently live in the White People capital of N. America. tons, i mean TONS of christians here. and guess what! they're a little loopy, yes, but they are mostly just kind and generous and compassionate.

i guess my point is that everyone takes shit out of context sometimes. but you or i would be just as guilty if we based our judgements, of an entire religion/way of life, on a few bad apples. it's EXACTLY like being 16 again and saying "i got mugged by a black kid over the weekend, and then my girlfriend had anal sex with the whole basketball team, so now i hate niggers." and it's just like this one Christian guy i know who has a gay son, and he's having a really hard time coming to grips. he says shit like "well, i love my son even if he is a dirty homosexual, but i really don't like the rest of them." it's useless trying to fight ignorance with ignorance, wouldn't you agree?

it's your life obviously. but i think it would be better if you didn't try to act like atheism is "the high road." because you're still judgemental and arrogant and ignorant, just like the misled Christ-heads, and the rest of us too. we should all take a closer look at things like this, "for the sake of evolution," no?

With that said, I'd like to welcome Mr. HappyCat to KR. (Let's just hope he doesn't turn out to be an utter fuckstick like paladin.)
