| | | can someone enlighten me? following an argument with my mother regarding the bible, i thought i would ask how many christians believe that the bible is the 'word of god'?
by that i mean, is your life dictated by the bible? is everything it says correct? |

| | | I don't think there are any christians that hardcore. I mean there are some who take the bible literally- i.e. they believe that god created the world in a week or w/e, but there is a lot of strange shit in there, lots of conflicting shit too. different versions, etc. I wonder what your debate was about though?

| | | well, i don't understand how my mother can take the bible as 'holy writ', when it's been adulterated and meddled with so many times in the last 2000 years.
translated from greek to latin, latin to a hundred other languages...
and never mind the fact that the bible is now, historically, very outdated.
in historical context, it's ancient. yet it is supposed to be the word of god.
can the word of god be modernised? how can people be so arrogant to assume that they know what god wants or 'said'?

| | | how do you know that's it's not correct though? that's my point.
when you take it out of hisorical context, it becomes meaningless, so why should the rest of it still apply? |

| | oh dear. so your mom is actually one of those people who takes it literally?
For the second time today, I just don't know what to say. I'm sure it's partly because I'm tired.
Does she eat pork and stuff like that? Quote:

| | | find out what was believed by the Gnostics in the years before Christendom became official -- i.e.
before 325 a. d.
and you will see some of the REAL harsh irony of "Christendom".
be careful. you might learn too much or become a believer.
maybe just skip it. drink a beer, try to laugh it off. |

unfortunatly, faith doesn't allow for reason. |

David Cross is my replacement and no disrespect to Hicks, but I like Cross even better. I can upload some for you if you want. Are you in the US btw?

Sure, upload away | d'oh. you know when you go to reply to someone's post, you can't see where they're from and I'm too lazy to hit the back button and find out. It was late last night anyway so I wouldn't be surprised if I wouldn't have even thought of that. I will upload some later.
He had pancreatic cancer.
