| | | Courtney and Buddhism I have never really looked into buddhism, but as far as I know
The don't smoke, drink or do drugs.
They are not exactly the most materialistic people.
And here she is chanting for the most materialistic hedonistic things...
like she could ever be a monk and live in the mountains and expericen life in its purest form. It is such a joke..I mean at least MADONNA is serious about her religion...
I felt sorry for her when I watched that doco and she was saying how chanting enlightens her and shit, its like umm...do you know the meaning of the word? A designer gown and a new fuck are not sources of enlightenment.
Being healthy, being honest, being calm and drug free and having a family and being in love and all the things that DON'T COST MONEY are things that enlighten us all. |

| | | This discussion has been going on for ages. She's clearly a nutbag and doesn't understand the foundation of any sort of faith. She'd be clammering on about her lucky rabbit foot if that "worked" for her. She just got enrichment and riches mixed up. |

EDIT: Ugh, that was bitchy. Sorry I hardly got any sleep last night.
I'm a Buddist, anyway, so that's why I'm posting here. Being a Buddhist, especially in Japan and America, is, number one, about being the best person you can be, and being as kind as you can be. Materialism in itself is not looked up upon, but material things are not inherently sinful by liberal Buddhist standards. You can wear whatever you like (exception for animal skin/fur, etc.) and be a Buddhist. And you saying that she's not going to be a monk is just stupid, neither am I. Most Christians won't become preists either, should they no longer practice their religion (the few that actually practice it)? She is a Buddhist because she feels it brings out the best in her and that's what Buddhism aims to do. It's not a theist religion, there's no worship, there's no hell, it's just about being and doing the best things you can.

| | | Ok you took that a little too literally. I said I am not up on buddhism,
my point was that she sees it as a tool to get what you want and only that, therefore she does not understand the real concept of it, a religion should not be about perks. It is about devotion and purity and self enlightenment, not ego boosting.
I am more into TM...It seems like she would be more attracted to Maharishi I mean he is the big celebrity teacher...the beatles etc.
My point was that she is missing the point of it...to constantly rave about how much shit she gets that she wants ,seems totally belittling of the religion to me.
I used the monk thing to compare her to a true buddhist. Yes it was extreme but I think it got my point across. |

They use religion as way to boost their ego, a way to fit in, they like the perks but half of them probably have no idea what their religion is really supposed to be about.
But whatever, it's all very personal. As long as people don't use religion as a rationale for hatred or violence, then it's no ones business what they use it for. If Courtney is getting something positive out of Buddhism, then good for her. |

| | | Courtney's summary of buddhism
"You chant for the shit you want... and then you get it!"
There's probably some truth in what Jonathan Ross said that the times in her life she's focused on buddhism things have gone well, but that's not so much proof that 'chanting gets you the shit you want', but that's she's focused and calm.
I'm thinking any form of chanting/deep breathing/meditating/relaxation is going to help calm her hysterics, leave her level-headed and able to enjoy more of what she's got. |

| | | There is a difference between a practicing buddhist, a buddhist monk and someone who agrees with their philosophy on life.
I think Courtney just agrees with their philosophy so claims to be a buddhist.
Does anyone know what buddhist monk training is like?
I'd pay to see a celebrity go through it lol |

It might be different for girls but you also have to go through disciplinary actions such as take a beating but keep meditating and other various forms of things that could possibly disrupt you like ice cold water.
Buddhists believe in reincarnation
Believe the dahli Lama reincarnates over and over until he has learned all he needs to know and never comes back to earth as well as other people
Believe the dahli Lama was once a goat. That's how he came to the world
Believe in giving up materials
Believe in giving up greed
Believe that the more stuff you have the more you suffer because think about this. Oneday you come home to find everything you own inside of your place has been stolen. You are suffering because you grew attached to things that weren't that releveant to the basics of your survival.
buddhist monks can marry and have kids. There are also no rules stating you can't have sex unless married. If it's a marriage with attachment and need rather than unconditional love, it goes against their teachings.
A Buddhist doesn't believe in attachment to the phsycial world as their way of life. Having too many attachments leads to suffering and loss of focus on what really matters in life.
So knowing Courtney from afar, I'd have to say she is not a buddhist. She might believe in reincarnation and think their beliefs are nice but she's far from buddhist. |

| | | If she ever really did embrace Buddhism on any level the change would be startling.
Even the ability to focus would have an amazing impact. Like focusing one putting her next album out, instead of parties, internet forums, or name dropping.
If she really put all her energies into an album, and nothing else it would probably be an amazing album. It would probably be enough to silence her critics.
Note I said “IF”. |

| | | oh please. i'm curious about that religion as i am for most things but don't expect me to take cl seriously when she says she's a Buddhist. that woman only remembers religion when she's in the shit. and when i say shit, i mean deep shit.
we could talk though about Eric and Buddhism. that'd be something.

| | | Buddhists are human. They're as venal and untrustworthy as the rest of us. Except for Richard fucking Gere of course. Every Buddhist country can have war, hate, greed, intolerance, just like the rest of them. I bet plenty of them do drugs, smoke, drink. Aree no Buddhists involved in drug trading in the golden triangle? I don't believe that is the case.
