Is Therapy helpful or not?

Hardly. To me its been the biggest release of personal growth. Before i was totally blocked. 3 years on im doing things that id never dreamed of doing before.

Wow, I forgot how priggish that quote sounded.

I figure if you've got something genuinely wrong with you, then yeah, there's advantages to therapy. But for most people the therapist is just providing the same role in our society as the hairdresser or the confessional booth or the Internet. There's a hell of a lot of people who just don't have anyone who they feel able to talk to about how they feel. I guess it fulfills that role. But I think personal growth has to come from within, and talking to others is only going to help so much.

i found it to be worse to my mental health then when i wasnt seeing a therapist. I had a shitty therapist though. It might be different if you find one you really like.

Often what gets us stuck is the lack of direction. Others can present the questions that we fail to ask ourselves. maybe because we just can't see beyond our immediate distress. The questions are often far more important than the answers--considering we all must relate answers to our own personal experience. No one can do that for us.
