| | | Really bad gay role models in the media: Seriously I swear to god, Hollyoaks better make it absolutely clear pretty damn soon that that Irish bisexual guy is absolutely no way for a dude to be. I'm sure they'd argue that there really are gays like that, but seriously, what the hell is the point of him?
Anyone else feel unrepresented by the media? |

| | | It sucks, I mean, dudes like him exist loads, but it's not like it's desireable. Do we really want the only gay dudes on TV to be doing this "in your face" thing? I just really want them to have a gay dude in the show who tells this guy he's a dick and needs to get over himself. I mean, it would happen, I'm sure, and if it wouldn't, it should.
I'm being made angry by a show I barely even watch. |

Haha, well actually yes, I guess it sort of is. Has he come into conflict with the Irish tard yet? I mean, the crowning daddy of jewels for me would be if the Irish guy accused him of being a homophobe or something. I'd laugh my ass off. |

I predict next year when he is a student (which all hollyoaks kids end up being) he will have a love/hate relationship with the Irish twat and this situation will occur. And of course John-Paul will kick his arse. |

| | | Yeah, but I'm pretty sure he'll be Wrong. (because most of Hollyoaks' fans are faggots).
They should let me write it, I'd just have him all like:
"Dude..... what are you?!" |

| | | what show is that? Ophiel you suck.
Back to the topic, first of all, the media doesn't have many gay role models, period.
And the few of them suck and are completely stereotypical. If I had to chose the worst I would say american Queer As Folk. That show seriously has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
And the rest is just caricature comic relief like Will and Grace, wich sucks too.
I would say Brokeback Mountain was pretty decent and dignified, however I couldn't relate, I'm not like that.
The only time I've seen real gay people, or at least real gay people I can relate to in any media is in The Hours. It's a movie where you see real gay life and real gay people without undignified stereotypes and it's not a nasty reality like the gym addicted meth club goers.
I always liked the gay couples in Sailormoon. |

| | | I guess I should've given the option for good role models.
I don't have a problem with art imitating life, and of course every gay dude on TV doesn't have to be a perfect role model. My particular beef with this dude is that they seem to be deliberately "approving" of him, far more than every other character. When he gets into arguments and gets to do some emoting, it's because he's bi and they just can't deal with it, girlfren, which is dumb because theres plenty wrong with him that would suck if he wasn't bisexual, and a person wouldn't have to be a massive homophobe to point that out.
I don't know, it's lame is all. |

| | | isn't every role model in the media a bad one? the fact that they even create the segregation by creating 'role models' for every stereotype speaks volumes for their jewish divide and conquer tactics. |

| I hated the gays in The Hours. They gave Ed Harris AIDS and Jeff Daniels was just dressed up in gay clothes. That fucking black coat or whatever. Every gay guy I see wears that coat. Was there a scarf too? I can't be sure, but I think his facial hair might have been homophobic. If it's racist when Ted Danson paints his face black, that facial hair was definately homophobic.
If I sound outraged, I'm not. I don't really care other than finding it sorta funny.
I guess the dykes were pretty accurate. No passion, bored with each other co-habitants, occasional displays of affection. |

Those characters are real. Of course he had gay clothes, there is nothing wrong with that, and some gays have AIDS, what is homophobic about that'?? nothing, it0s life, it's what happens.
The Hours is real and a refreshing portrayal of gay people because they have depth. It says that not all gays are gym buffs and not all lesbos are bull dykes and not all of us are promiscues and shallow and not all of us will end up like spinsters, thank goodness.
You are a scumbag. |

not all gays are gym buffs, some are dying of AIDS. and not all lesbos are bull dykes, some are fag hags who work in the publishing industry.
revolutionary!
also, i wouldn't call the hours a refreshing portrayal of gay people. the guy was miserable and met a bad end.
i'd rather be a gym buff and happy, than terminally ill, suicidal but with supposed depth.
you're the one who's being close-minded by assuming that all people who work out and have sex with various partners are exactly the same. or that their lives are shallow.
the women were portrayed okay, but lesbians are boring anyway.
at this point, i'd almost welcome a return of the bull dyke. |

| | | I think the only gay males I truly relate to are the characters in Gregg Araki's films. Though one could argue there's a certain amount of idealation involved. Or maybe it has something to do with Araki himself being straight?
One should also note that I tend to relate to outspoken middle-aged blonde women with weight issues. So make of it what you will. |
