| Hardcore I would like to discuss 'Hardcore' (1979), directed by Paul Schrader, which stars George C. Scott ('Dr. Strangelove', 'The Last Days of Patton', 'Patton') as Jack, a pious Calvinist father who hires a private investigator to find his daughter when she goes missing during a church visit to California. So it transpires that his daughter has been appearing in cheap pornography films. Has she been murdered in a snuff film?
I was reminded of this powerful film just last night when I was watching the 'Does Snuff Exist?' documentary on Channel 4 (UK, part of the 'Dark Side of Porn' series), which discussed such subjects as Ruggero Deodato's 1980 film 'Cannibal Holocaust', John Alan Schwartz's 'Faces of Death', Hino Hideshi's 'Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood', Michael Findlay's 'Snuff', and criminals such as Ian Brady and Myra Hindley and Miyazaki Tsutomu.
Have any of you seen Paul Schrader's 'Hardcore'? |
