| | | BLACK & WHITE MOVIES Appreciation Thread. ..and i guess we should include technicolor classics too in case anyone wants.
i just love the black and white, i've been watching so many lately. some stuff just looks beyond genius and would absolutely be ruined in color...
best b&w film ever, as i see it : on the waterfront.

| | | i must admit ive only seen a handful, and only the classics, really. of which streetcar was my favorite thus far. but the apartment and roman holiday were good romantic comedies.

I haven't seen it in years, although I do have a tape of it that an old boyfriend bought for me (which I thought was awfully sweet, since he specifically did not like old movies). The little boy ("A pigeon for a pigeon!") has been in the press lately - he grew up to work on those very docks (he was a neighborhood kid they stuck in the movie), which are still mobbed up.
Ted Turner should go to hell for colorizing old movies - did they finally make him stop doing that? Besides the impact of black and white, any colors used should have been selected by the filmakers. I actually once turned the color off on my mother's tv because I was watching some movie Turner had violated in that way, and like a week later she called me at school saying "Did you turn the color off on my tv? I can't figure out how to get it back on."
Just recently I saw Mildred Pearce for the first time in a while (birthday dvd from Mom). That's a hell of a film.
