| | you guys are naming all the really good ones
i really like wong kar wai. his romaticism is right up my alley. nothing of his really lives up to 'in the mood for love' in my opinion but 'fallen angels' is REALLY effective. i prefer it to the majortiy favorite chungking epxress, actually.
'days of being wild' i found had the least of a story, and while hes not big on plot ever, it really suffered this time. the train scene wasnt worthy of the rest of the movie, and i would have LOVED to see more between maggie cheung and the andy lau character. that could have gone somewhere. there were pockets of great scenes and potential throughout..but... he wasnt focused enough i dont think.
as for other HK movies, yeah i know john woo is supposedly some kind of a neo- sergio leone, but i actually thought that 'a better tommorow' was pretty damn bad..... maybe it was just me. a couple cool shots of chow yun fat shooting things and lighting a cigarette on cash does not redeem it , sorry. i guess its mainly guys who love video games that like this movie though... |

| | | bread&tulips- italian movie about a housewife who takes her own 'vacation' from her family and daily life and all the people she meets along the way. the actress in this is so charming and cute and lovable, i dont know what else she's in but she's the greatest thing about this movie!
matisse/cafe au lait- french movie about a west indian christian girl is pregnant and her two boyfriends, a dorky jewish kid and a rich african muslim kid have to come to terms with the idea that either of them might be the father. so funny, very true to life circumstance/realtionships and dialogue. the jewish kid is played by the writer& director matthieu kassovitz aka nino in amelie.
i think i shall post these in recommendations.. |
