No point in comparing the two (this isnt about Crawford in the first place)-- they were both great. Can you see Bette in any of Joan's successes? No. Were Joan's successes great movies? Yes. Can you see Joan in Bette's successful films? No. Were those films also great? Yes. They both exploited the talents that they had, and depending on the material that they were offered or at some point in their careers had to take, they did their best. They were both stars in the classic sense of the word.
