i think bette davis calling someone a bitch is probably the greatest compliment from her. she passed the torch at that moment.

To call Bette Davis talented and to call her movies horrible is just ridiculous. Marked Woman, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, Of Human Bondage, Dark Victory, All About Eve, Jezebel - there are so many I could name.

She was the first real character actress. A woman who would go to great lengths to fit into character. "Of Human Bondage" was the first film that had a bitch as a main character and "Marked Woman" was the first time anyone had ever seen a woman be beaten up or bruised on film.

She deserved all the awards and all the Oscars she won as well as the nominations and she was JIPPED out of All About Eve and Dark Victory.

Joan was originally the 'pretty girl' of her time. She didn't become a character actress until Bette became a success from it.

i dont quite understand how that has to do with people not forming their own opinion of her instead taking it off of courtney. you're saying that courtney tards liking her is a coincidence due purely to bette being generally overrated? yes? no?

i'm not being snarky, i just wanted to clarify. usually i agree with alot of your posts, i'm just not sure exactly what you meant.

for the record, i dont think bette was the greatest thing ever or anything like that. she was definitely of the old guard and in the wake of the 50's naturalistic actors, her stuff can seem extremely characterized. but sometimes thats EXACTLY what you need for some things. what she did, she did well, and in the contexts she was in she sure worked. just my 2 cents.
