| | | A Scanner Darkly is anyone else happy about this movie. visual aspects alone i think its gonna be great. Not a big keanu fan but the rest of the cast will surely carry the film for him. I wonder if it'll pay justice to the book though..hmm

| | | Been looking forward to it for a year, looks great but everyone seems to fuck P.K. Dick up so i'm trying not to be overly optimistic. |

| | | No, Linklater has done this before in a very good film called Waking Life, but apparently the rotoscope is even better in this. |

| | | yeah it's been in the pipelines for ages, since i read the book at least. I suggest people rent Waking Life too, the rotoscope is fascinating to watch and its kind of existentialist philosophy which gives me hope that he will recreate P.K. Dick well, though it's not one of Dicks most philosophical novels. |

| | | i actually didnt enjoy waking life. I thought it was so psuedo intellectual that it took away from actually enjoying the film itself. |

| | i loved waking life and am so excited about this i may actually go to the cinema to see it despite being extremely poor at the moment.
haven't seen clips, just read reviews and they all say it looks ace. but keanu reeves? i don't like him. i will give him a chance though, but i think he will ruin it.
why do they have to use cheesy fucking hollywood actors. |

| | | Yeah, but still. I get kind of weirded out by that.
I'd say people's general preferences are set in the first 16 years of life. After that it's takes consciousness to change. |

| | | I saw this movie about a month ago..
haha, I went with about 8 other people, and by the end it was the one guy who had seen it twice explaining it to everyone else
it was sort of boring, and REEEEALLY pretentious.
the animation was cool, but it was really distracting too, in a way. one of the reasons I might have been so goddamned confused, was because I found myself focusing on the weird animation instead of the dialogue, or something important.
ehh. it really was sort of bad.
but thats just my opinion... don't be hatin' |

I, personally, find that in independent film/music/art/etc. there's a very fine line that's tread between being (using films for example) a "smart" movie and being so caked in intellectualism that it becomes off-putting.
I found Waking Life to be on the off-putting side.
It's like in Me and You and Everyone We Know; the art director in the gallery struggles with this line and favors the overly intellectualized side. That' part of the reason I like that movie, because it plays with the line.
Does this make sense at all?
.........
For the love of god I hope XNew TasteX comes here and says something somewhat similar. I feel like I just threw myself to a pack of wolves. |

| | | I thought Waking Life came off as very organic, the kind of conversation I can lead on a day-to-day basis, and I do on some days, I wish there were more.
I don't think it's overly intellectualized, but I think you need to be raelly intrigued with philosophy to want to see it again or talking about it. There are parts in the movie that are right in the thcik of major mental/philosophical dilemmas and it hurts your liking if you haven't been there, which is unfortunate, but reassuring to those fo us who have. Some parts weren't my favourites, like the guy in jail or the girl who was at the train station, but the other scenes make up for it and thensome.
I don't think you could avoid shutting a lot people off with this movie and I could see why, but at the same time it doesn't matter to me because it's already helped me tremendously an I love it almost regardless.

| | | which m83 song was used? i knew nothing about this. i really liked a scanner darkly, mainly for the robert downey and woody harrelson characters, they were funny. and did anyone see bob arctor (keanu) poke james (robert) in the stomach as he was being taken out of the room? that was surprisingly cute. also, i heard radiohead music in there.
i watched a waking life a long time ago and remember not finishing the movie. i guess i became uninterested and didnt care what the characters were saying after a while. i'll try watching it again. still liked the visuals though.
me, you and everyone we know was a special movie. greatest scene for me was the 2 girls running down the street still innocent in a way. |
