They could've used all that drive around time to get the audience more in-touch with the characters instead of shots of them tinkering around/sleeping.
Not to mention the elephant gun of a revolver, what happened to it?
I, myself, wouldn't have even gotten that far. Because as soon as the initial "we're in trouble/rifle scene" happened, I would've been playing Bunny from Platoon on his skull with it.
