| The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus Please discuss.
Objectively, I thought it was a typical Terry Gilliam film. WHich is both a good and a bad thing. A work of incredible imagination, and gloriously rendered - I mean, it looked BEAUTIFUL, but it was so sprawling and took to long to get where it was going. I really like Terry Gilliam, but I do usually feel like he needs to be a bit tighter with what he includes. Inh this case I totally understand getting as much heath Ledger footage in as possible.
But more than I liked the film, or was pleasantly surprised by Lily Cole, or was just stunned by how it looked, I was really sad when I'd seen it. And this is basically because I realised that there'd never be a new heath Ledger film for me to see. And I wasn't a longtime massive fan of his from my teenage years onwards, but after Brokeback Mountain I realised that he was brilliant. And yeah, I really felt sad when he died, because he was (in my opinion) one of the best actors of my generation, and had so much potential. I guess people of James Dean's generation - how they must have felt when he died. ANYWAY. I love Heath Legder, and after he died, it sort of felt like "At least The Dark Knight is coming out" and after that, Gilliam had said he was going ahead with The Imaginarium, and so I guess I didn't really realise THAT'S IT. NO MORE HEATH properly until now. And that makes me feel a bit morose.
ANYWAY, who else has seen this? What did you think?
Ooh, I love Lily Cole's costume in her first scene...

"Why did he have to replace it?" we wondered.
"Because he'd cut a hole in it." said Andrew, authoritively.
I ventured that I would just have gone at it between the cushions.
There's more than one way to fuck a couch. |
