I really liked this one. I pretty much had the same reaction you did in the original post. The film was gorgeous and a departure from most films in the cinema lately (well, not surprising since it is Gilliam). Except for Jude Law, the cast was fantastic. I had forgotten Tom Waits was going to be in it, and he and Plummer together made me happy. But I couldn't get away from the nagging knowledge that this is Ledger's last film, and I really did like him so much, especially in his last few movies. He was quite funny in this one and lovely.

it seemed to drag in parts and sometimes some of the characters annoyed me but generally i liked it, very beautiful and i really liked the different manifestations of Heath's character.

People I've spoken to about it have all commented on how "brilliant" Johnny Depp is in it... I didn't feel that at all - I felt like it was a very average Depp performance - doing what he does, really - phoning it in, I guess?

Yeah, that's the problem - it was fine in the first Pirates film... and now it seems that it's just what he does when there's not much of a character to work with - I mean, Sweeney Todd was enough of a character to not revert to Captain Jack with, but he's a good actor, and it's like he's relying on that character to get him through other acting jobs.

Also - when is he going to go back to being a proper actor, because he is a good one...?
