The Hospital

I think this was on yesterday on channel 4 but lacking a TV I didn't watch it and used 4OD for the first time to do so. Anyhoo, thought it was quite interesting if bleak. Really puts into perspective the downsides of alcohol. And the downsides of working in A&E. Its like babysitting a bunch of massively ungrateful drunks who periodically try to die on you. What did everyone else thing?

I'm not sure which was more shocking, the guy who almost killed his mate by deciding to drive after consuming 12 pints (and didn't seem too bothered) or the woman who was given 10 times too much ketamine and had cardiac arrest and then a heart attack!
What is wrong with some people? I am 24 and have never, even when I was a teenager, got so intoxicated that I ended up in hospital. I even on the occasions I have what I consider to be a heavy nights drinking I can speak clearly, walk and not throw up or end up in a fight.

was it the woman who'd been given the ketamine OD that was asked if the night out was worth it & she replied, "yeah, i only spent £20". i'd like to think she was joking, but as a 19-year-old mother of two, stepping in front of a taxi pissed out of her head at gone 4am, i wouldn't be surprised if she really did fail to see how fortunate she was to be alive.

that guy who almost killed his mate in a car crash (over the limit) MUST have an alcohol problem.

this docu's like "What happens to Jeremy Kyle guests when they leave the studio".

really depressing, but a really good programme.

i think next weeks maternity dept one will be equally depressing.

It was pretty horrifying- I couldn't believe the drunk driver, he was such a massive twat- its like, dude, your friend has been air ambulanced here and is in a medically induced coma and you appear not to have given a shit.

It does really make you question people's idea of self-determination. Its like "Its my right to get so drunk I have to be hospitalised" and far be it from anyone to say anything against it. I think A&E staff should get a bonus for every night they don't punch someone. Thought it was pretty brave of them to let channel 4 show the ketamine OD. Its the sort of thing you expect hospitals normally want to sweep under the carpet.

I cried. I felt SO SO bad for the girl who nearly lost her foot, but the girl they gave the Ket OD to made me cry when I thought of her being trapped under a car with her legs broken. I don't do very well with human suffering when it's shown to me directly.

The female doctor they interviewed, though, was excellent. Very wise woman.
The program made me scan my memory bank, and to my recollection I have only been to A&E once for excesses related to drugs and/or alcohol (and I wasn't a twat, and I said thank you after being treated).
