Or, films that will turn anyone who watches them into a feminist. Perhaps not ZTedster.
I often make posts that imply
KR is a feminist board and get told off for it, but there are a lot of women here so there's probably a greater interest in feminism here than on other places on the internet. Not that amount of women in a place correlates with amount of feminism, as a quick glance at the Taken In Hand site community will prove. Just that the ones here have been attracted by
Courtney Love, and you're not likely to like her without having some opinion on feminism.
Now that I've got the disclaimer over (a disclaimer I've probably needed to write on here for a while) let's start. The first two that come to mind are:
4 months 3 weeks and 2 days
Romanian 'abortion thriller' set in 1987 at the end of Ceaucescu's regime, tracking the attempts of two students to procure an abortion for one of them on the black market. Not exactly a air-punchingly motivational mood-booster, but the atmosphere and tension it creates are incredible, and it's also a compelling lesson in recent history.
Persepolis
The film of the graphic novel, by Marjane Satrapi. It misses out quite a lot of cool bits of the book - the inevitable obsessive fan's criticism of any adaptation - but retains the same quirky and affecting drawings whilst adding to the effect through introducing the occasional colour sequence. Really nice animation style, sparked my interest in Iranian history and changed A LOT of my perceptions about women there. If you need an extra incentive, there are also some hilarious bits.
CHECK THEM OUT. And add your own!
