| | | Your Favorite Film Locations? you know how sometimes the location makes the movie, or at least makes it that much better? which movies stick out in your mind that had locations that really stuck out as a really great aspect of the film?
or in the case of common locations, (ie: nyc) which movies made the best use of them?
i'm completely obsessed with locations
my list: the talented mr. ripley : venice, rome, all over italy !!! GF2, the deep end, a place in the sun : lake tahoe CA once upon a time in the west : monument valley, utah (HOLY SHIT!!) hud: rural west texas the great gatsby : newport rhode island heat, chinatown : GREAT, very different use of LA mean streets, GF2: east village and little italy, nyc baby doll : benoit MISS, and stockton CA the notebook: south carolina a river runs through it: all over montana, and wyoming paradise now: nablus, palestine the misfits: reno and surrounding nevada desert (this one blew me away)
there are tons more but these come to mind right away.
yours? |

Confidential.
I think Italy looks better in A Room With A View than The Talented Mr Ripley. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out.
I love locations that are familiar (which basically limits things to New Zealand and Melbourne), I thought Heavenly Creatures looked great. I used to live across the road from the house that the Hulmes lived in, and have romped in the same gardens they romped in, and run down the same pier they ran down. I've also been in the park where the mother was murdered. It's quite a cool feeling to be basically wandering around in a film set. |

most of the scenary in misfits is in arizona, not nevada. it was cheaper to film here than over the border a few miles down.
i liked the neighborhood used in edward scissorhands. though it was worked on, the way the streets curved is just so "suburb" and "perfect"
devils rejects, the last picture show, practical magic, the new world, romeo + juliet and lots of other ones.
the surroundings used in garden state were amazing too |

| | | Yes, Tokyo! So much to film for every taste I'm guessing.
I went in the church that one of the last scenes of Catch Me OIf You Can was filmed in. The one where he goes crazy with the money. It looks nothing like that inside. It's very tall and cozy. Right in the middle of Old Quebec City and a block away from the knives/bong/adult stores.
Very nice outside, though. |

. | haha, LA Confidential is one of my favorite movies ever. Its quite a feat to make the 90s into the 50s, lots of strategy involved there.
i live in san francisco now, and as a film location, its a bit cliche because so many movies get stuck on the monuments and sf's reputation for the noir-ish detective/ hitchcock type thing. that said, vertigo used it very well, and bullit and dirty harry in a very different way. i love how the same place can seem so different from film to film. |

Yet another reason why I need to visit the South Island. And I know what you mean about seeing local places in films, it's kind of nice.
I loved the locations in Amelie. I'm probably only saying that because I just finished watching it about 20 minutes ago and can't think of anything else, but really, the locations are wonderful. |

Exciting scenes of ye olde Invercargill. |
