I just don't get this whole Twilight thing. Read Interview With The Vampire people JESUS! |

i think it's just a girl thing and i'm just not gay enough.
on IMDb it has a 5.5/10. but guess what:
Male Users Average: 4.7
Female Users Average: 8.6
that's the different between Bottom 100 and Top 250. |

| | | Does anyone else's snobsenses get enraged by the likelihood that a good chunk of the English speaking world will never read a book that wasn't aimed squarely at 12-16 year olds and written accordingly?
I didn't get the animosity towards adults reading Harry Potter unashamedly until I actually read some. I don't know, tbh, if most of that animosity was BECAUSE of the content of the books (rather than them being "for kids"), but Jeeeeeeesus.
I mean, fair enough, if you want kids to read stuff, it has to be easy, fast paced, and not especially challenging. Surely there's a limit?

what i will say is, i imagine the author of twilight is going to get a hell of a bitchslap from feminist critics over how wimpy and boycentric her female lead seems to be, i mean the girl is beyond normal teenage obsessiveness, she seems to be incapable of anything without edward. that coupled with the oopsy daisy i cant walk down the street without getting run over aspect of her character is just really depressing. |

(has anyone?!) good god. |

thank god. | oh she doesnt literally get run over but the book is peppered with moments of PERIL for her, because she's clumsy and seems to attraction the wrong kind of attention (being backed into an alley by BAD MEN from whom only the vampire hero can SAVE her), but there is a scene where she nearly gets hit by a car careering out of control and edward leaps across the carpark to save her and take the impact. it's a huuuuge slap in the face for female characters, but then, it's obv written by an overly wistful chocolate loving teenage goth. who pushes aaaall the right buttons in terms of 'archetyal things girls like' |

| | | haven't you seen the author? she's a 30 something year old stay at home mormon mother. :| she got the idea for the book from a DREAM. ugh.
and she's really proud that she wrote like 5 and a half books in three years. i wouldn't be boasting if i were her.

| | | yeah i looked at the wikis for the rest of the books as i figure i'm not going to read them, the story just gets progressively stupider and lamer and it sounds like nothing really bad happens to anyone, ever |

| | | twilight had a segment on NPR San Francisco last night, and i almost died.
listening to some 60 year old man detail the plot, talk about tweens and goth/emo appeal, and the swoonworthyness of the male star, on NPR radio was really entertaining, in a pathetic way. and all about how the author is a repressed mormon, who had to push her sexual desires into fantasy fiction writing about vampires. |

No beginning, no end, and nothing can change much in the course of the story.

| | I have to admit, I've read all four books. Did I enjoy them? Sure fucking did. Why? Because they were absolute shite. I enjoyed reading something where I can unashamedly hate every fibre of the protagonist's being.
I thoroughly enjoy reading books that I can rip to shreds. I'm not going to lie: I spent the whole time I was reading them going 'oh fucking hell Bella get a life. I hate you, you moron.' And I enjoyed every second of it. Am I going to see the film? Sure am. Do I want to bite Robert Pattinson on the bum? Yup. Am I more than slightly embarrassed by this? Yes. Can someone help me please? |

(Both movie and series)
Because I just see Vampires and Highschool and my mind makes that obvious leap. | |
