There are some golden moments in that film that completely sum up the human need for love and affection and the importance of family and friendship.
It's a very bittersweet film and is quite optimistic, depending on how you look at it. |

| | Lex, you might also want to check out 'The Waitress' if you haven't already, it's a bit fluffier but could still be classed as an independent film.
Very girly, if you're in that kind of mood |

| | | Together (Tilsammens) by Lukas Moodysson. It is funny, poignant, little bit political and has lots of Abba on the soundtrack. You feel like it's almost more of an edifying experience simply because you're watching a foreign film (surely there's some kind of scientific evidence that thinking about subtitles at the same time as watching makes you cleverer?) and the cinematography is all soft, warm and 70s super8y. What more could you want? Well, some of it leaves a bit to be desired from a feminist perspective, but that's the only thing I can complain about, and realistically, I complain about that in everything.
There's a film called The Puffy Chair that my friends have talked about recently as being good, but a little bit depressing (it's about a breakup). They generally have good taste so I'll recommend that one indirectly - hope I don't regret it when I actually get around to watching it. |

| | | Tilsammens is so wonderful. It makes me feel so fuzzy inside that even my raging inner feminist goes "ah fuck it, it's a lovely film".
