Who likes it? I'm currently watching the new BBC adaptation of Little Dorrit, which is so far excellent and well makes up for the overrated disappointment that was Cranford earlier this year.
I have to admit, I haven't read half the books that these are adapted from; I find Dickens' narration too heavy-going and it puts me off, but his characters are excellent and this is where costume drama is a useful medium.

| | | I saw a ridiculous, almost shot-for-shot, remake of A Room With A View. I didn't get the point of it. The naked-running-around-the-swimming-hole scene was really similar. Basically, they just subbed in some new harridan for HBC, and thus it didn't even work. Where was Judi? Where was Maggie? WRONG.

| | | What you're saying is that any good costume drama needs a Dame?
There isn't one in Dorrit, but it DOES have Sue Johnston, which is good.

| | | not a serialized tv program but i was just watching the wings of the dove with helena bonham carter and thought that movie was noteworthy. i don't care if it was only loosely based on the novel or didn't follow it that much, it was still well acted, sexy (for a costume drama or otherwise) and had great costumes. |

This particular ARWAV didn't even exploit some sort of advantage such as "much more time available to explore the plot". Silly.
