i really liked kids & bully. tbh altho gummo amused me i thought it was shit. BUT the rooster song was sooo epic. my bff & i drove our parents nuts w/in in high school.
anyway, i prefer my fucked up teenagers with a comprehensible narrative. omg chloe sevigny is hot too.

Kids has its moments (love Chloe) but overall is far too didactic.
Another Day in Paradise is sooooooo good, it Clark's his best film.
Bully is awesome. Not only is it unsettling, but it is also humorous which is so hard to pull off.
Ken Park is fun and the writing stands out.
Wassup Rockers is my least favorite, but i don't hate it, and i enjoy it's light attitude.
GUMMO is soooo much fun. It made me feel sick when i first watched it as a kid, and i love the real footage.
Julian Donkey Boy is great, and i love Dogma 95!
Mister Lonely is terrible and the only good scenes are of the nuns and Herzog. The scene where Samantha Morton sunbathes and gets really burned and then is forced to have sex with her husband is a direct reference to the same scene in Fassbinder's Martha which i liked, but it seemed out of place in such and underdeveloped film that had soooooo much potential.
i think i came to terms with the fact that i don't like any of harm's films. i disliked julien donkey boy the least. i haven't seen mr. lonely yet but that's probably his only film that i really want/wanted to see. he and his friends hold a warm place in my heart.
I prefer Larry Clark to Harmony Korine, but I do like Dogme 95 and what it stands for. I found Julien Donkey-Boy pretty hard to watch and concentrate on, but I'm pretty sure that was the effect it was meant to have. Gummo was excellent (and much more coherent). Mr Lonely was pretty dull (except for those flying nuns).

what do you think? gratuitious crap? a mirror? compelling? meaningless cesspools of basic instinct?
do people admit to feeling any sort of connection with the characters, and plots, or is any connection simply borne out of an inability to look away?
i do not relate to these characters, but they exist and i find it repulsive that they do exist. i have seen them out in the world. saw a group of kids beating a rat or small possum to death with sticks in ther suburban streets of kansas city a couple years ago. i dont understnad them and it makes me want to cry that i am part of the same species.
the same can be said of anyone who murders, or anyone who goes off to war or anyone who cheats on their husband or wife or anyone who votes for mccain. they all make absolutely no sense to me and i would be a fucking fool if i didnt want to see them and try to figure it all out.
i do think that there is something wrong with harmony korine. he and vincent gallo i bet get along very well.
bully bothered me the most.

I remember the first time I saw Kids. I thought it was an underground snuff film. But it is very realistic in its depiction of that age group away from the suburbs and maybe even in the suburbs. People are evil. Harmony Korine just bothered to portray their evil on film rather than romanticizing it with logic the way the rest of hollywood tries to. Mainstream Hollywood is about selling stories and fantasies not exposes and they are smart for doing it that way. Have box office receipts and actors salaries suffered for their aversion to cinema verite?

I have no doubt that it is realistic but I do not see why it needs to be put on a stage. Booohhhhhhhhh

if you ever proffered any opinions worth noting we would already know by now. your lack of ability to comprehend and appreciate art is far reaching. harmony korine could shit on your face and film it and it would be better than the tripe you spew. in fact he probably will do that. since i suggested it.

way to be intolerant
you act like such a snooty tight assed bitch sometimes
get over yourself
i need to see mr lonely i missed it when it was in theaters.
in terms of bully, i think they did a great job at capturing just how fucked up kids in florida are. those types of people where everywhere.

My regard for you as some kind of aesthete capable of raising a single enlightened or elegant thought on any topic died long ago. You damage great art whenever you try to contemplate it. You should Marry Larry Clark and have decadent children. Yr soul is rotton.
