Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Am I the only one here who watches this show? I couldn't find a thread about the show itself, just one about Shirley Manson joining the cast. So how about it?

I don't believe you actually stopped watching the show because of this. How is it supposed to be pronounced btw?

Also, if you did not know, Glau is actually a ballerina irl. or has training. w/e. I thought her dance at the end was particularly beautiful and had to find out why.

yeah i did that too after she danced.

i'm thinking of cromarty in scotland which gives its name to a shipping forecast region. when i used to listen to the shipping forecast bbc english had it as crom-uh-tea. "uh" is meant to be a schwa, and stress on 1st syllable.

i really stopped watching because i moved house. it was good though, had something of the same sense of threat as the best of the films

oh, of course, that cromarty.

Does your new house not have a tv?

also, yes, I love the show because it has that plus I'm obsessed with the whole terminator story. I also enjoy thinking about time travel paradoxes, etc.

I bought the first season on dvd.
btw, kesh, as some of its extra features, it's got footage of some of Summer's dance rehearsals.

and dirtyplotte, for some reason I thought of you when I saw information for the "sarah connor charm school". they're really into guns and have some strange ideas but I like the idea of it and think we should start our own. or at least discuss them.

i'm into this show. fuck shirley manson can't act for shit. whilst she's an evil stilted robotty thing even she can't quite do that well enough. still its cool she's in it.

the only problem is the other night i dreamt that fucking terminator (the one who was after the boy in military school) was after me.

i swear though brian austin green has gotten BETTER looking with age. on kickboxer 2 and 90210 he was such a pip squeak.

I never watched 90210 but I have seen pics from that era and must agree.
and lol @ terminator dreams. I don't think I've had one of those.

agree with you and recalcitrant about this. hopefully she'll be killed off soon. I'm not sure if you guys have seen all the way up to the most current episode (do you guys live in the USA?/ watch it on tv?) but I don't think it would be too much of a spoiler to say that I believe Ellison is catching on to her. Hopefully he'll make it happen.

dirtyplotte- the Sarah Connor Charm School got me thinking about feminist role models. They basically felt the old Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton in the second movie specifically) was a better role model than the current one who isn't as buff. There's more to it than that but I think that's way too simplistic and wanted to hear what you thought. Not even a discussion of their point of view but just about feminism and being buff or however you want to put it.

well i am disappointed in her lack of physical prowess. its unfortunate that the little box demands that women be so fucking thin, because sarah connor is a warrior. and this sarah connor has the right determined look, but her body betrays her. she looks frail and almost ridiculous holding a gun and her fighting big men is maddeningly wrong and lame.

so its irritating as its a lie in the storyline and its really irritating that they demand that women not take up space. its almost anathema to the whole storyline. now that i think of it, im not just irrtated by it, im actually pretty pissed off.

I have mixed feelings about it. But this is also because I have read interviews with both Linda Hamilton and Lena Headey about how they prepared for the role and Linda had a personal trainer for months before they started filming. They didn't have the time or money to do that for the show. And the personal trainer guy had her eating dry salads and stuff like that all along. I don't know if Lena diets per se; I know she is a vegetarian but Linda was also very skinny, just super muscular on top. Lena has some muscle though, I don't see her as frail.

But aside from all of that, I go back and forth on whether it's ever ok to judge a woman on her body in one direction or another. I mean it makes me really sad to see anorexic girls, but I hesitate to idealize any one particular body type because it all still feels superficial. And the thing about Linda was that she looked much more masculine to me. I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, just that Lena has more curves. At least her hips are curvier.

someone who has lived her adult life protecting her son and thinking the world is gonna fucking end soon would be in kick ass shape. lena is not anywhere near what i would call in shape. shes thin. rail thin. and its not all that hard to bulk up a bit. weight train seven days a week for thirty minutes at a time and youve got yourself a pretty defined bod.

the very fact that she doesnt intrude upon space is very annoying to me because the character is supposed to be able to defend herself. your whole balance bullshit has nothing to do with this arguement "oh i think we shouldnt judge one way or another" is creampuff egalitarianism. a distraction. the thing is they hired someone who couldnt even appear to be able to fight her way out of a wet paper bag.

but there's more to it than that- you said earlier that this Sarah has the right determined look and that's part of it. Maybe they had auditions and some really muscular people turned up but they couldn't act. Or maybe all of the actresses in Hollywood are too busy being rail thin and don't want to be muscular so they didn't have the option of casting one anyway. They had to get someone who could act, not just someone who was buff. But yes, she should bulk up some now I think, if she can. The show's future was not certain but now they have been picked up for the whole second season so she should get on that.

Thing is, it may not be possible for her to ever look as muscular as Linda. Different bodies are different. When I was younger, I always heard fitness advocates assure women that they wouldn't bulk up like men would so they shouldn't worry about that (I guess it was a concern because apparently some women don't want to look muscular). I don't really know if it's true or not but I think it's possible. My muscles have always been very bulky but I'm not really any stronger than some of the women I've seen in the gym who have smaller muscles. There were a couple of scenes where Lena was doing chin ups and she does have some muscle. Now that I think about it, I've not seen that many women attempt to do chin ups so maybe all skinny women look that way when they do them. I don't really believe she can do them btw, but she does appear to have some muscle is all I'm sayin'. Now I want to see calista flockhart do some chin ups so I can compare.
