| | | Best movie Val Kilmer ever made. Lots of WEIRD parts, but Jim Morrison was a weird dude. I like the Shaman that appears at the end and magically takes away all of his powers by the movement of his hand. |

| | | i love the doors the band.. but the movie was too random and weird
val kilmer was acting like more of a caricature of jim morrison, than auctually playing him... you know what I mean?
it was too exaggerated. |

| | | i think the doors is a decent flick.
see here's the thing - it's a goddamn movie - not a documentary.
keeping that in mind, i think that stone did a pretty good job.
sure, lots of fans were upset over the fact that the film focuses on the "chaos" of the time.
that jim's "poetic", gentle side isn't really shown. ray manzarek, the band's actual keyboardist, expressed similar concerns at the time of the film's release.
but again, i think it's important to keep in mind... it's a goddamn movie!
would it really be all that interesting otherwise?
kilmer does a superb job as far as i'm concerned.
in fact in most of the concert scenes where we see close-up shots of him kilmer's actually doing the singing himself.
i think that's pretty fuckin impressive.
it's a nice showcase of some of the doors' greatest hits and most of the events acted out actually did occur.
it's a bit long - and that's really the only bad thing i have to say about the movie. |

| | | Val Kilmer looked better than the real Jim Morrison, who looked like a douche most of the time. But maybe I keep confusing Val Kilmer for John Holmes (he's sexy fyi) |

| | | As far as the factual aspects of The Doors, that movie was nothing more than Oliver Stones teenage wet dream of who he wanted the real Jim Morrison to be. I believe what Ray says about the movie, that it was a joke. There are so many untruths and "creative license" was taken a little too far with some things that were true, but in the movie they came out all wrong. I've read a lot about The Doors, I've been a huge fan since forever, and according to the dozens of books, articles, documentaries, interviews I've read and watched, that movie was NOT a biopic, but more a story based on real people.
and I hated that Meg Ryan didn't do any real research before she played Pam. She didn't interview Pam's parents, or any of Pam's still living friends. She just played a junkie idiot bitch.
And don't even get me started on all the Patricia Kanealy bullshit. Stone even admits that her character was a composite of THREE OTHER WOMEN that Morrison was with. No wonder she put a curse on him for the rest of his life.
But it's not all bad.
Now regarding the style, cinematography (ESPECIALLY in the concert scenes) that was all great. I loved the Miami trial stuff, and I loved the New Haven show. Everything at pere lachaise at the end was cool. and I liked that stone used a lot of morrison's poetry, not just doors stuff.
The wigs were really bad though.
I thought Kilmer did an amazing Morrison, in terms of singing/on stage performance, etc. |

| | From what i've read about Jim Morrison he was a bit of an asshole most of the time, so i think Val probably did a good job. I also think Val as Jim was hotter than the real Jim
I loved the movie. I think Meg Ryan was great as Pam. But wasnt there something about the Patricia marriage story that wasnt supposed to be true because the real Patricia had too much input on the movie (she was in it too as the Priestess who married them).
When i watch it know i always expect Wayne and Garth to appear in the dessert scenes! Damn that weird naked indian! |

I prefer Dig! though its more of a documentary than a movie.. Quote: |
