| | | Fuck all these remakes!! It was bad enough when Hollywood decided it was a great idea to start making movies that are "based the novel by...."
And then, it sucked when Hollywood decided to start doing "modern times" versions of Shakespeare plays.
And now, what the shit is going on with all the remakings of great movies? It was one thing with Ocean's Eleven or whatever; that movie was 50 years old at the time, and it was still sorta lame to do. Now they're remaking movies from the 70s and 80s. Next, there'll be a remake of Harold & Kumar...
What if bands started "remaking" classic albums in their entirety? Would people stand for it if Nickleback recorded an updated version of Aladdin Sane? Or perhaps it would be more palatable if MCR made modern version of In Utero?
This shit needs to stop. Anybody here wanna help me blow up Tim Burton & Co.?
Please discuss.

| | | i am with you, and i am also sick of old tv shows being turned into bad comedy movies. and sequels of movies that were not good to begin with. and remakes of classic or foreign horror movies that do nothing but suck ass.
let's remake the birth of a nation, though, just for laughs. |

| | | is this going to turn into a "what hollywood should stop doing" list?
because add the spoofs to the list.
"scary movie", "epic movie", "disaster movie", etc, etc.

"scary movie", "epic movie", "disaster movie", etc, etc. | well yeah. that's kinda like the same thing. i mean, instead they take 4 or 5 shitty movies, roll them into 1 shittier movie, and add jokes for 9 year olds.
judges rule that we will allow spoofs.

| | | I don't mind Tim Burton doing remakes because he does actually look at things from a different perspective and doesn't necessarily make a straight remake. Then again i'm just biased because i love the dude.
I do think the most misguided remake has gotta be Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot remake of Psycho.
I'm not exactly ecstatic at the news of the Nightmare on Elm Street remake or remakes of classics like Jason and the Argonauts.
Has the U.S. film industry run out of ideas??

| | | aren't you just a remake of willy wanker?
anyway remakes can be good. a fist full of dollars, my fair lady, insomnia, the invasion of the body snatchers, the thing, the fly, the philadelphia story. probably more but my brain is sort of woozy today

They're remaking My Fairy Lady, which just seems fairly pointless. I'm just waiting for them to announce a remake for Casablanca.
Slightly offtopic, but I don't understand the point of America remaking shows from, say, England or Australia...they're already in the English language and they're usually superior to anything Hollywood could cook up, so leave well enough alone, in my opinion.
I'd like to see some historical films that weren't ridiculously lenient with facts. There's a lot of fascinating stories out there that haven't been told in film format and would make for interesting movies. C'mon, who wouldn't want to see a biopic of Madagascar's Ranavalona I |

| | | If we assume that, sadly, Hollywood is going to keep remaking films - as it always has - we should turn our attention to which remakes would be the most awesomely bad/misguided/pointless
Michael Bay remakes The Ten Commandments
Tim Burton remakes Fitzcarraldo, with Johnny Depp (for real!) in place of Klaus Kinski
George Lucas remakes THX-1138
Steven Spielberg remakes Judgement at Nuremburg
Mel Gibson remakes Judgement at Nuremburg - with a different ending!
Kevin Costner remakes Citizen Kane
Lars von Trier remakes Operation Dumbo Drop

| | | yeah i'm sick of the lack of originality in films these days. everything references something else, or is a fucking adaptation of a book, or a remake of a crap tv show, blah blah blah. charlie kaufman needs to write more scripts. his stuff is truly original in my opinion. |

which is good, because i was just wondering what the hell happened to him.
he's also the director of the film, which should make things interesting.
