The Little Mermaid, for totally ruining the Andersen fairy tale (where she turns into sea foam because the prince hasn't kissed her and married another princess, not the sea witch).
War of the Worlds. My friends advised me to get out of the cinema before the end, but of course I was curious and stayed. Totally destroyed an otherwise fine movie.

The Andersen ending is beautiful.

I know! I love his tragic stories. One of the most brutal is about a girl's lover who's murdered and his head buried in a pot with a jasmine bush in it. The bees that are attracted to the smell then proceed to drive the murderer crazy. Hardly stuff you'd read your kids before bedtime.
You probably should though. I loved that sort of thing as a kid. I bet you did too!
