| | I quite liked Deathproof, but I don't think anyone out there thought it was a particularly knock-out film.
Ramon you many have missed this thread whilst you were on the bannedwagon.

| | | I didnt like that either. It annoyed me that Rose Mcgowan got killed off so early on in the film. Plus it was rather boring.

I didn't read his article because I basically think he should be ignored. I really hate his "if you don't like you are dumb attitude" fuck that shit.
He's just an emperor with transparent clothes.
In Death Proof the writing was SO FUCKING BAD, I mean you could LITERALLY see Quentin Tarantino talking through their characters' mouth and they are puppets.
People may thing it's "cool" and "genius" because it's tarantino but it's still shit writing to me because characters are not meant to be puppets. The dialogue should just be, you are not supposed to be reminded that it was written by someone and even if that was his intention, the huge ego behind it just makes it equally bad.
I did enjoy the car scene at the end but NEWSFLASH: It's nothing new. Things like that have been done since The Battleship of Potemkin had the mother of all climatic scenes at the end.
Blahhh enough of this bullsit. |

| | That's one crazy angle you've got for critiquing the film right there.
Welcome back Ramon

| | | It's a delibrately trashy film. No-one has called it Tarantino's best film (or even close) and no-one has been on about the awesome fleshed-out characterisation.

I remember back in the day people were raving about Grindhouse and how genius the whole project was and I turned out to be an idiot to these people because I was talking shit about Grindhouse.
I know that they were deliberately making a trashy film, but did he intended to make a bad film?? because that's what it is.
And I don't think any artist in any medium intends to make something bad and if they say they do that is just a cop out.
It's like M. Night Shyamalan with The Happening. He made that movie probably thinking it would revolutionize the thriller genre and the movie came out, it tanked horribly and a few days later he goes like "it was a deliberate B movie, I made it bad intentionally" or something along those lines. Well YEAH RIGHT, no one does a movie so that it will be a failure artistically or commercially.
And I think that¡'s the case with this movie, it's just bad and completely pointless because he's not bringin anything new to the table except his egomania wich is getting really old and boring. |

| | | oh and I was shocked to see Sydney Pottier junior in the film. I was like "wow, your father is Sidney Pottier and you are starring in THIS shit??" and then I looked her up and she doesn't have much of a film career. |

| | | I think get more where you're coming from. I don't remember there being any sort of hype and obviously I wasn't on here at the time, so I'll have to take your word there was a build-up that I missed out on. But Deathproof feels more delibrately 'cult' (which is the context I meant for 'trashy', btw) than, say, the Kill Bill films that proceeded it and I can see how it might have wrong-footed people and would explain the polarisation in that other article I read.
idk, I watched it with little expectation with a friend over which is maybe an argument for avoiding hype & idle speculation.
