Good/Bad Kids TV Shows From When You Were A Nipper
Me and a friend were debating last night at how most of today's shows for kids are pap compared to the ones we had as kids. I think the main shows that stick out the most for me as being good were Spellbinder, Knightmare, Demon Headmaster, T-Bag and The Queen's Nose. And i think the only main show that got on my nerves was Round the Twist as it was too bizarre.
share ur kid loves and hates

20 years from now you'll hear some teenager saying that the kid's shows just aren't as good as they were 20 years ago. I think kid's show in general are painful to adults, except the ones from our childhood seem better because we remember liking them.
Anyway, only old people from the US know these. Well, some of them are still around, but my generation was the original audience.
The Children’s Television Workshop/PBS (or ‘channel 13’, as I would have called it then) stuff:
Sesame Street
Electric Company
Zoom
Mr. Rogers Neighborhood
Magic Garden
For some reason non-PBS stuff is fuzzier. Probably because at least some of the above were actually clever. The old Warner Brother’s Looney Tunes stuff is still good, but I know it wasn’t made in the 70s, (and I could tell then that it wasn’t made for kids) but I believe these were:
Wacky Races (some or all of the characters were from other cartoons, but I can’t remember much more than that)
Electra-Woman & Dyna Girl
Schoolhouse Rock (although that was on between the shows)

While I'd like it to happen to annoy all these ponces who think that their generation = winnar and no other subsequent generation can ever really experience life as they did (tangent: rock n roll was mostly shit and has been massively improved upon in the last 50 years, but try telling that to my dad), I still hope that today's kids don't grow up to be nostalgic of the kids TV that's on nowadays, because it truly is wank. I know most of what I put up with was wank, but there were a few shows which both me AND my parents loved then and can still watch now, because they weren't just junk aimed at people who are still easily amused by noise and colour and "street" language. Pretty much everything I've seen on kids TV lately has been exactly that, and I feel sorry for people who grow up on it.
I recently bought the DVD of season one of Maid Marian and her Merry Men. I still love it, and I love it even more for its extreme early 90s-ness. Wonderful.

I escaped somehow. Let's go
actualy [sic] I have quite a blessed life if I'm honest. I have many people to love, hate few and have few money problem's [sic].... What more does a person need? Oh yeah and I have some kind of humbleness unlike you of course ^_^ ~ CarefulCarpenter
No one has mentioned 'Captain Planet' yet. Now that was an absolute classic.
Also the original Powerangers. I was always the pink one, one of my brothers the red one, and my other brother strangely enough was always the yellow one.
My sister has just got my niece watching some evil kids progs including
Wizadora
Tots TV ("Sack Magique")
Alphabet Castle (with that talking turkey Gobbledegook!)

I just love that it's basically a more consistently funny series of Blackadder, which in turn was basically a kid's show with a few dirty bits thrown in.
Thinking back, most of the stuff I watched as a kid was, like, 'Allo 'Allo and Bottom and stuff. Kids TV was just crap and patronising compared to two guys beating each other up over a photo of Sue Carpenter.
galaxy high
gravedale high
pirates of darkwater
alvin and the chipmunks
aghh real monsters
funhouse (though my friend was on it and says it was all rigged)finders keepers
maxi's world
the dreamstone
knightmare
she-ra
and many more
Dudley The Dragon and Camp Caribou.
And The Odyssey, if anyone remembers that at all please marry me. Marry me today.
BTW, holy shit, thanks to Wikipedia I found out that Ashley Aston Moore died of a drug overdose which is intensely depressing.
And when YTV had, like, no shows, because we're Canada, I stayed up and watched their British sitcom block. Keeping Up Appearances, Red Dwarf, Are You Being Served?, etc. But then they plugged the [adult swim] style of doing things and trashed the good shows for whiney-voiced anime floods. Ugh.
Also, I remember seeing French animated tits on Teletoon in the early years. Some seriously perverse shit for that channel. Like one episode whee I think this guy goes to rob her and then ends up fucking her while some old man peeps in from the yard. And some pretty fucked up animated shorts and series. I miss that. Incredibly. Like, I would buy cable every month for that one channel. Even Showcase is all eh now. And it's been airing indie movies since before it was cool last decade. It's basically Bravo! without the classical-loving fag undertone.
Oh, and Sailor Moon got pretty good the longer it went because they specifically dubbed it for the Canadians and it had more adult shit in it. And that girl's voice. Sugar, the one that hosted that in-between-shows show on YTV. The only with the really high-pitched voice who did that Eminem parody nobody will remember. Her voice could be insanely annoying if you were sick and home from school. I bet she squeals when she's being bonked.
Also, other good Canadian shows I remember:
Breaker High ("beam me up, biscotti!")
Caillou (half of it was the pleasing voice of the narrator)
Babar
Polka Dot Door
Captain Star (which was actually really really good. I love First Lieutenant Scarlette. She's the Agent Scully of the animated world. )
Mr. Dressup (which was so much cooler than Mr. Rogers)
Goosebumps
The Big Comfy Couch (which they are still totally airing, I saw it last week! professor bedhead turns me on.)
