| | | HOW DARES MTV remake..... ... the fucking rocky horror picture show?
i think im gonna kill someone. Quote: MTV Remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show
MTV is developing a remake of 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, reports Variety.
Lou Adler, executive producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.
The new version will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original. (oh heaven forbid)
The director and casting decisions have yet to be announced. The original starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf.

| | | For some reason I always thought Rick Moranis was in the original.
To be honest, I have no great affection for it, so fuck it, why shouldn't they do what they like to it? At least it'd be interesting to see what they do, plus it could hardly be worse than anything else MTV does. |

I've always hated RHPS, but I tried my best to like it, which I suppose has to count for something.

the point it, part of the fascination (and im talkng about the movie here) of the rhps, comes from its lo-fi, b-movie like style. the movie had a kinda limited budget and you see it and that's part of its charm. the sets, costumes, makeup, everything has that special aura that (imo) cannot be redone, especially by whoever brought us the hills and laguna beach.
they either can try and make it modern and hip or attempt to recreate it's original 'trashiness' and either way it's gonna look BAD. it was perfect the way it was, there's no need to ruin it. plus, every single part of the musical is a reference to something the average teenager that watches mtv has no clue about, so why ? whyyyyy?
it distrubes me, profundly
and i dont even want to think about possible cast choices cause the sole thought of it makes me cringe :| |

Besides, you know Richard O'Brien already did a by-all-accounts abysmal sequel to the original movie, right? If even he doesn't consider it sacrosanct why should anyone else?
I get that it's part of your youth, but then, part of my youth (Spaced) is in the running for a serious unauthorised arse-raping by American television very soon. Do I care? Not really. Will it destroy my enjoyment of the original? Not really. Will it be amusing to see how badly they do it? Totes!
Remakes only offend me on the grounds of the lack of imagination in not bothering to make something new. I don't see that they do any terrible disservice to the originals really, unless the creator of the remake insists that all copies of the original be destroyed. At worst you'll get something so bad it's bad that Rocky Horror fans can bitch about at stage showings. |

| | Wow, I can't even fucking believe this. How will it make any money when you can see the infamous original at midnight showings around the world? I've been going to RHPS for 3 years and can't imagine anyone finding a remake amusing. If you like the movie enough, you probably like it for all the low-budget and accidental fuck ups that occur that just cannot be redone. |

| | | They should do to it what they did to The Dukes of Hazzard and turn it into soft porn. Aside from the fact that it's a pointless remake, nothing that was shocking or risque in the original would have any kind of impact in this day and age. If they filthed it up a notch (and possibly stuck Eddie Cahill in the male lead role) that'd be something. |

| | | I never get why people freak out at remakes. It isn't going to take away from the original so I don't see what the big deal is. Of course it is going to be awful like most remakes are, but that doesn't mean you have to watch it. The original will always be intact. |

| | i was actually wondering HOW COULD richard o'brien allow something like this to happen.
easy answer : he no longer owns the rights for the movie.
makes sense.
Richard O'Brien is dismayed at plans for a big budget remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Even though the British entertainer wrote the Seventies stage musical, he won't be involved as, to his great regret, he signed over the film rights years ago. "Anger fuels and distorts my outlook on the whole thing," he tells me.
"When the stage show first went to the US, [music mogul] Lou Adler arranged the sale of the film rights to Fox. I wanted to take the contracts home to read but was hurried into signing them. After signing something I hadn't read, sure enough I found out I was going to be marginalised. It made Fox £360m, keeping them afloat for years. Lou made a conservative profit of about $20m, whereas I've made less than a million.
"But the way I have to look at it is, I have a roof over my head, food in the fridge and children who love me."

| | Oh yes, I'm sure R O'B's kids love him soooo much for ruinating the Rocky Horror Show.
He better not turn out to have sold The Crystal Maze at a car boot sale or some stupid thing as well. |
