Blindness - Canada's next Blockbuster

Can you name any Canadian #1 box office hits?

besides David Cronenberg’s movies, just let me say how fortunate we are to have him...
Porkys made $105 million in 1982.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding made $140 million in 1996.
Norman Jewison’s The Hurricane starring Denzel Washington made $50,668,906 in 1999.

Can we do it again? Paul Gross and Justin Trudeau star in Paschendale which I believe hits theatres in September, but I'm not not holding my breath on that one. My hopes rest in the new Canadian movie, Blindness.

Blindness opens Sept 19th in Canada. I reckon Don McKellar has fashioned a blockbuster premise in his screenplay adaptation of José Saramago's popular novel. The movie (and the book) depicts what would happen if blindness were contagious. It stars Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover and Julianne Moore.

I love sci-fi movies. Could this be Canada’s next Blockbuster?

It's funny because as soon as I read this book I knew it would be a film in the near future. I wonder if it'll be any good?

it's too bad the film didn't fare to well with panel at cannes, but i think it has potential to be big when it gets its chances with the public. i'm not a big lover of critics anyway, why should they decide for everyone else if the movie is good or not?

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I know the reviews haven't been great, but I rarely listen to them anyway. I disagree with them most of the time.

I agree, this film looks great, and it to me it doesnt matter what the critics say. But when it comes to blockbuster hits, it does matter what the critics say. If it becomes a hit, it will take a few weeks to catch on. The reason why i think this film will do well is because it is relevant with today. Pandemics are one of societies greatest fears. Spreadable diseases and global pandemics are as alive today as ever. Even Maple Leaf meats can make you go blind.
