Gore Vidal's Caligula

Was there ever a movie released or was this done half-jokingly? I'd really like to see the movie if it was released. Looks good.

Any info?

you're years late bb. It was a mock trailer done for an art festival or something. It's not a real movie.

I'm so confused. Was this to be some kind of "director's cut" without the nasty bits Bob Guccione had spliced in to liven the film up?

I saw some of the shitty Australian edit Caligula, minus good bits, with Ronette the other week. What a let-down, but still interesting.

I think this is what he was referring to.

YouTube - Caligula

Well, I'd watch that. Twice. But it would be unfair of Gore to have another crack. It's somebody else's turn. Maeve Binchy's Caligula?

Malcolm Macdowell doing that little boots dance is the best part of the movie!

I actually love that movie. I have no shame in saying this.

I don't like the fake trailer homage thing though. It's not much of anything

and I don't think they should ever remake Caligula. leave it as is. No one would be better than Malcolm McDowell in that role. NO ONE.

Little Boots dance is pretty great. but my favourite scene in the film is when he has to stamp those documents and say
"I caligula caesar command in the name of the Senate and the people of Rome." and he goes nuts ("Rome! Rome! Rome! Caesar! Caesar! Caesar! Rubbish! Rubbish! Rubbish!.....I, Caligula Caesar command in the name of the Senate *snorts* and the ... people of Rome.")

EDIT: I considered who could play Caligula and I think Gary Oldman could cus he's just so damn versatile and talented. Or possibly Tim Roth cus he's really wacky and he wouldn't make it too serious.
