And another thing, the 'new and improved' batcave is so shit! Wtf were the set designers on holiday or what?! Enormous empty warehouse with bright light. Genius guys, really clever.
| They were only using the empty warehouse/bunker thing as a place to store his gear in The Dark Knight becuse Wayne Manor was burnt down at the end of Batman Begins, and thus, there'd prolly be like, a draft and stuff down in the cave until that ol' mansion was rebuilt atop it to keep it heated and insulated, yanno? |

The pencil joke actually got the biggest clap and the Gordon part got the biggest cheer. I could have done with more enthusiasm. |

| | | And that's the nature of evil. Meet an evil person. Chances are that person will make you laugh hysterically too. It just goes hand in hand. Heath did a great job presenting that balance of terror and humor. I'm glad I got the chance to meet this wonderful person before his untimely death. The hospital scene tends to be people's favorite, but I really liked the scene where he's telling the story of his scar (the dad one) and the big chase scene in the tunnel. |

| | | After so much stuff had to be done on the weekend, not to mention large crowds going to see the movie anyway, I am finally going tonight.
Judging by yours and everybody else's reactions it should be rather epic and thus totally gratifying. |

| | | I saw the batman yesterday. This movie has a huge amount of hype but this time, the movie lived up to the hype.
I think the reason for its success is that it is a real bad ass faithful adaptation. And that is the whole point of adapting something to the screen, it has to be faithful.
I knew this new batman series are heavily inspired by Batman Year One, so I read it and I also read Batman The Long Halloween, and it was so refreshing and exciting to see a scene on the long halloween were batman, gordon and dent are uniting forces talking on the rooftop, and Nolan adapted that scene in the movie like a transcript. And that is what it's all about!!!!!!!
Batman fans don't want to see a personal take on the character by the director or his own crazy interpretation, no, they want to see THE CHARACTER wich has existed way before those directors and has its own essence and nature.
And that is precisely why the other batman films(including the burton ones) and just bad in comparison to the Nolan films, because they weren't faithful adaptations. They weren't Batman.
When I see on the trailers that Two Face is going to be in the movie for example, I want to see TWO FACE. I don't want to see a flamboyant middle aged fruitcake like tommy lee jones' two face in batman forever that doesn't even come close to what two face really is about. I for instance don't want to see Jack Nicholson being a flamboyant(again, why did they made all gay) CLOWN, no sir, I want to see THE JOKER.
And that is exactly what Batman The Dark Knight does. He shows you two face with his depth and torture and incredible tragedy. And the Joker, my god, that was just fucking amazing, they captured the nature of the character to a t. THEY NAILED IT. I saw for the first time ever, the Joker come to life in a way that no other batman film or adaptation had been able to do. This was a classic performance.
Oh and everyone has overlooked Aaron Eckhart but he was just fucking amazing man. He's right up there in his characterization with Ledger's characterization.
To me this movie was epic on so many levels. It was so fucking magic for me to see my hero since I was 11 come to life, in such a deep well done manner. For the first time ever, he wasn't campy, he wasn't ridiculous, he wasn't light, he wasn't GAY(Batman and Robin anyone?), I mean it was just magic on so many levels.
I am so fucking glad Nolan has made these two movies. Really, nothing can compare in terms of adapting a comic book in the right way. And Batman is such a great character and the batman universe is so interesting that I'm so glad it was done with such high end quality on all aspects. The writing, the cinematography, the acting, everything I thought was great.
And the movie was so deep and profound on so many levels.
For example, the reason why The Joker is Batman's nemesis, as opposed to all the other villains, is because the joker is the EXACT OPPOSITE of batman, yet they are both two opposite sites of the same coin. And the loneliness. They are both freaks like no other, and it's incredibly lonely to be a freak.
I even sympathized with the joker, that's how powerful the adaptation is, that scene where he is being questioned by Gordon and he asks gordon how does it feel to be completely alone or something, well he was projecting, he was talking about his own loneliness, he is lonely because he is a freak but that's his nature, he can't change that. See?? that depth of character was never captured by Jack Nicholson or Tim Burton. I'm sorry, it just wasn't there. It wasn't in the writing, it wasn't in the acting, it wasn't in the direction, it simply wasn't there.
Oh my, I could go on and on and on. But I'l say that I liked the movie so very much.

| AMEN.
Ledger did do an absolutely fantastic job as the Joker, no argument there, but Eckhart really was captivating and charismatic as Dent, and brought this weird combined anger and subtlety to Two Face, where as like one minute he seemed to be talking rationally, very somber, and then BOOM he'd just start yelling. But still not over the top, like it was still understated and well executed. |

Probably my favorite two face moment was when he was bound at the hospital and he sees the joker and he just jerks violently, he's going to kill him but he can't he's bound!! I mean it was tpo notch acting, I felt the pain and the anguis and the anger of the character, because that's what two face is about, ANGER. He is not the gayiefied clown of batman forever. I love tommy lee jones but that was SO WRONG.
And that's the thing with the other batman films, the approach was wrong because they did films that were style over substance. That's good but that doesn't really work with Batman because batman is a really deep character and the villains are too and all. You need to show the depth of the characters, and I think what they did was great, I mean everyone was at the top of their game, the characters were written the right way, even a character like Rachel came across with depth and dimension. Amazing, amazing movie. |

| | | i've just seen it.
i was sooo afraid it wouldnt live up to its hype but it did and im happy.
i loved it so much. i've got a zillion of rants to make about it, but im too tired now.
i'll just say amazing direction and amazing cast, all of them were amazing in their parts, even maggie wasnt that bad (ESP. if you compare her to the embarassing job katie holmes did in b.begins - she was probably the only thing i didnt like about that movie). |

| | | I just came back from seeing this movie again. It's embarrassing how much of the plot I missed the first time I saw it - without realizing I missed it.
So much better for me the second time, and I left the theatre almost in tears. I feel like my world has shattered or something and the Joker made me want to cry so hard because of his loneliness. Being the Courtney tard that I am, I immediately came to the conclusion that he must have been the true writer of the song 'Uncool' off America's Sweetheart.
ahem:
Pretty faces grab the headlines (obviously a reference to Harvey Dent or Bruce Wayne)
You leave me nothing but my name ('the joker')
And all the grief keeps multiplying (lots of shit goes down when he's around)
And I pretend to feel no pain
Never gonna lose, baby
If I tell the truth
Would I be uncool
If I could write a love song?
I just wanna believe
You tried to hold me (he's singing to Batman.)
Spend our whole life
Now i feel so lost
I get tired of the pleasure
My company's so cheap (criminals who are obsessed with money)
Baby, take me from this tempest
Take me someplace so I can sleep
(Sleep, sleep)
I don't wanna die and I don't wanna live (singing to Batman again in this part)
Baby, I just want a chance to be with you
I tried, oh, I love you
I swear to god I never felt so alive (images come to me of Batman kicking the shit out of him and the joker laughing the whole time, or of him in the cop car with his head out the window, blowing in the breeze)
..skip to the bridge of the song
Baby, you're a freakshow just like me (very fitting)
Baby, we're all born ugly
Gotta write a love song
Gonna make you cry, I'm gonna go so deep
Tear the world up (also very fitting)
Somemewhere I can sleep
And I wonder why
And I wonder why
And I cry
Wanna be uncool
Wanna be uncool
Now I'm gonna make you cry
'Cause I'm gonna go so deep
I'm gonna tear this tempest, baby
And go somewhere I can sleep
Gonna make you love me
Gonna make you love me
Yeah
anyways, its just more of that afterwards but COME ON it's The Joker's Ballad to Batman. |
