Mongol is a foreign film that’s so good it was nominated for a 2008 Academy Award, for some reason however it still hasn’t been put into wide release in North America?

Coming out in June, this film is only screening at a few select theaters in a few cities only, and in Toronto that means the Varsity Theater in the basement of the Manulife building at Bay and Bloor.


Mongol is an absolutely stunning historical epic by Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov. This movie is very similar to Conan the Barbarian, and I suppose Braveheart too, but in this case the hero, Temudjin (Ghengis Khan), gets lucky and marries a smart woman who actually saves his butt a few times - there's a twist.


Try and watch this film in the theater if you can...

I can't walk past a poster for this without an urge to add "OID" to the end of it.

Anyway, my friend saw it and said it was pretty rubbish.

my local paper had a page i had saved with summer films to add to my netflix list and maybe see a few at local cinema so it will play here soon however they had it listed as mogol twas a typo and i had already had mongol on my netflix que from when it was nominated for the award.i am not shocked tho alot of movies nominated for foreign picture dont come out till next yr at american cinemas however i thought normally they would be out by early may at the latest oh wells it appears to be about the best offering i have heard of for summer american theatrical releases.

I want to see this. I am a child though and giggle at the title. I like Genghis Khan stuff though cos I am a secret geek.
