Paranoid Park: Gus Van Sant

Couldn't find a thread on this - has anyone seen it? I've been wondering whether to go....

i found the trailer on ewtube
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

see.. it doesnt look all that great to me. especially since Elephant was the WORST MOVIE EVER. i mean, awful. boring, pompus, self-absorbed, tried too hard... just ick.

I definitely wanna see it. Gus Van Sant is one of my favorite directors. Gerry and Elephant were amazing. Let's not talk abut Last Days...it wasn't really good. but it wasn't absolutely horrible either. I think Michael Pitt ruined it really. he just overdid it all.

Gerry was just absolutely brilliant brilliant brilliant. (I made a thread bout it on here recently).

and of course then there's My own private Idaho and all the others.

Gus is a genius.

see the trailer does make it look a bit so-so - i saw some other clips on youtube and they looked better - the camerawork looks quite nice and i like the idea of the time being all over the place. i thought elephant was interesting.apart from that i've not seenmuch else by van sant.

I saw it. It was interesting, but not mind blowing. I haven't seen any other Gus Van Sant films, though. Maybe that has something to do with my opinion on Paranoid Park.

Check some out. Some are awesome, some are very much not. He's nothing if not eclectic. Discover him!

Well, he's made some shitters. I needed to love Last Days, but I hated it.

I've been meaning to see some of his films. The older ones. I heared Last Days was pointless, he just walked around his house the whole time? But I'll definantly check some out. Which is your favorite?

Most people seem to group Elephant and Last Days together in the lovey/hatey thing, but personally I thought Elephant was great, and Last Days was terrible.

they both seemed to be films with only one real scene. both with a build up of an hour and a half of pointless shite before that scene actually happened.

in saying that, i never lasted through last days. i left the cinema halfway through, but i'm guessing the money shot was there, right at the end.

I still think Gerry was his best film. I know this isn't a very popular opinion. A lot of people seemed to hate it.

It just moved me to tears. Arvo Pärt's Für Alina and Spiegel im Spiegel is perfect for it.
And god, that scene at the almost end (don't wanna spoil it).... those who have seen it know what I'm talking about.

Any way, I haven't seen Paranoid Park yet, but I will.

I'm just very very excited about the Harvey Milk biopic.
did you know Gus has been thinking about ding this movie since the 90's. In '93 he was about to film it, but he didn't agree with Robin Williams as Harvey Milk so he didn't go through with it. Thank god, I really don't think that would've been a good movie.

I've only seen Elephant and To Die For by him, two very different films but I loved both. Elephant was very disturbing, I saw it in the movies and coudn't get it out of my head. To Die For is more of a (black) comedy, but a good one. Ice queen Kidman fit in her role.

This one might be good, but for some reason I'm so tired of films about skaters..

And is that blonde girl the little twat from gossip girl? She annoys me so much.. well the whole cast of that show does.
