| | | tim burton to do alice in wonderland Sorry if someone has already posted a thread about this. I read about it last night in an interview with him and Johnny. So when I woke up I tried to google and find something about it online. Also news about him doing Frankenweenie. http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/11/...derland-in-3d/ |

| | | a couple years ago I read that there were two alice in wonderland movies coming out. I guess Tim Burton is directing one of them based on the novel, but the other one was supposed to be based on that video game Back to Wonderland or something and Sarah Michelle Gellar was going to be Alice (it's a teenage Alice, not a little girl in the video game) I was really excited for that cus I think SMG can play a sultry, vulnerable young girl very well. You know what I mean? in any episode of buffy where buffy is really off her game (the episode that she thinks she's in a mental episode in is a good example, or the one in season 2 where she goes to the hospital and there's something killing the kids)
I'm going to click on that link now, and it better say that marilyn manson is playing the queen of hearts in Burton's new film...or maybe he was supposed to do that in the Back to Wonderland film.....but then again manson has his own version of alice in wonderland coming out sometime. |

Manson's movie is about Alice In Wonderland's author, not about Alice or her travels. |

| | | The page wouldn't load for me, but would the movie be live action or would it be in that claymation-type way he makes movies [ie: Nightmare Before Christmas]? I think he could make Alice In Wonderland look pretty awesome in live action. |

| | | It says it's going to be 3D and part animated in the way they are making the new Beowulf film with Angelina Jolie etc., and then part live-action. |

I absolutely adore Tim Burton and everything he does. He's a genious who gets better with every movie he makes. 'Charlie & the chocolate factory' and 'The corpse bride' are my fave burton movies indeed. I'm sure he'll make an amazing 'Alice in wonderland' alla burton movie. |

| | | *Jan Svankmajer* YES YES! I don't think anyone has bettered his version, I'm not sure it's possible...
I love the barren landscapes & general bleak setting, its based around his childhood in wartorn chezq (<sp!?)...Have you seen 'Lunacy' by him? It's pretty disturbing but very worth watching.
I think the Alice movie would work much better animated like TNBC, as opposed to computer animation, much more charming, in keeping with the book. |

The clip I saw from "Alice" was very intriguing, different than the usual Wonderland; I'm even more curious now that you mention it was based off of war-torn Czech Republic (though then it was probably Czechoslovakia?)
I've always meant to play the video game American McGee's Alice, but never got around. I always loved looking at the screenshots.
Manson's film "Phantasmagoria" at first looked interesting, but after reading further on it I'm somewhat iffy. Burton doing his adaptation of Alice could go either way for me. I've always kind of hoped someone would focus solely on "Through the Looking Glass". |

I've read-up on Svankmajer and I love his take on objects and the concepts behind his work. If you love him then you must be familiar with The Quay Brothers? Also amazing. I love the worlds they create. I love love love Tim Burton but they're kind of lesser known and more kooky. They're twins and watching them in interviews is really cool, they come from a surreal, dark and twisted place |

By using this method, Burton could really succeed in bringing the story to life whilst retaining its "picture-book" charm. I think Tim Burton is ace anyway, he never seems to hold back on anything in getting a film just the way he wants it. I have every faith in him.
Why all the hatin' on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? It was only when I watched it again last night that realized it is actually an epic as far as adaptations go. Though I preferred Gene Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka in the older version, Burton's film does the book much more justice and is just so superior as a film. I think Dahl would be proud, especially as he disliked the older version. |

I think it would've been better if it was aimed at a more adult audience, then it's darkness could've been explored further. It seemed frustratingly like a project with huge potential which had been held-back. | |
