I was too lazy to look up the other thread, plus I'm an Aries.. so I like to lead things. Definitive Sex & The City Movie thread, yay.
The trailer has me so excited. Its so perfect. I bet any other show turning into a movie would be all sentimental with soft piano music and shots of them walking with leaves falling. But noooooooo, Sex & The City, they always deliver. Big, glam, energetic.. with perfect shots of everyone. I looooove the shot in the trailer when the camera is skidding across Carrie's apartment and you see her putting a box in her infamous closet. It feels so... fucking good. Like she never left.
i must admit, i am fucking excited. i just know im gonna get disappointed, especially with jabba the hut i mean jennifer hudson in it (god, somebody put her to sleep already). sorry about that, i just cant stand the bitch.
Everything about SATC was unbelievably cheesy. And the puns, my god the puns. So much of the writing was just plain awful. I watched it for Kim Cattrall. I loved how she got to call SJP a cunt in the final episode. It was so symbolic, given that they hate each other.
Anyway I'm looking forward to the movie. Gross and cringe-worthy as it will be.
Okay, I'll admt it. I actually really dig this show, but I will never let anyone I know in on that fact. It's a guilty pleasure and I was slowly introduced to it by a few different friends of mine who love it. I'm definitely interested in the movie. And, maybe this is not normal, but Carrie is my favorite character.
I can't wait for the movie, but I hope it won't spoil the whole rep of the series.
I loved the show - watched the entire six seasons in 2004 on DVD and then felt that I'd really missed out on a cultural phenomenon by not watching all along.
(haha I then lent my DVD's to some work friends, and one lady in her 40's had this mid-life crisis afterward and it almost ruined her marriage. (They've recently reconciled though, and are happier than ever)). Homewrecker by proxy?

I like Sex and the City and thought it was an amazing show but I've come to re evaluate it in the last few years. Specially the character SAMANTHA.
She used to be really popular but I can't stand ANYTHING about her now, she is nothing she's not women's lib, she's a fucking slut, period.
Like one episode I saw again where she goes like "why does everyone has to get married and have kids, it's so fucking cliché" I must say I cringed at her words. It made me want to get into the show, slap her and say "That's life you fucking revolting slut from hell!!!!"

i get what you're saying but that's a really shitty example. getting married and having kids is cliche, and it's not all there is to life. certainly, you know that.

no I disagree with that. I mean having kids and getting married is not all there is to life but it is one of the things that define life.
It's like Elizabeth Taylor's My love affair with jewelry, she dedicates the book to her children: "without whom there would have been no life". I must say those words got to me, because I'm alone, I've never had a boyfriend or no one to really love and I feel my life to be completely meaningless and trivial.
The meaning of life is a very personal thing for everyone right, but that's besides the point. The point is that Samantha sucks. She has no values or redeeming qualities, she's a fucking asshole, period. And people like her are also assholes.
And I would love to see a 90 year old Samantha, sans beauty and see if her "I'm a callous nymphomaniac bitch" schtick still stands.
I have seen it, and it doesn't stand up to repeat viewings as being any better than MR--slick and inane, but pretty to look at.
There are a lot of shows that you could compare Melrose Place with, but SATC is not one of them. The only similarity I can think of is Kristin Davis being in both.

I'm not comparing them directly, nah, just saying that it is a good correlation.
I guess I like slick stuff. Perhaps my taste in entertainment is inane. I dunno. We're talking about a show that discusses relationships from 4 different viewpoints. Some of it is hella corny, but a lot of it isn't. That and the fact that I think there's some really good comedic performance by those girls.
I think that it may have to do with the season you watch, etc. Like with any show, writing style changes over time.

I think alot of people were intimidated by her because her sexual persona is so up front; a great way to hide the intimidation is to call her a slut. Hands down I have to say her lines were the ones that made me laugh the most - not because I agree or necessarily disagree with alot of what she said, but because the entertainment value of her character was brilliant.
I disagree with your point that she had no values or redeeming qualities - several times she put her friends before her, eg offering to help Carrie out financially when Charlotte wouldn't, or minding Brady and letting Miranda have her hair appointment. And above all else - she was never judgemental. More than I can say for you.... whatever her friends went through, whatever choices they made, she was there and she supported them.
I'd even go as far as to say her outlook on life was the most refreshing - Charlotte was too fantasy fairytale volunteer-at-the-museum-marry-a-doctor/lawyer/stockbroker-have-a-baby-be-rich-and-not-work, Miranda was too cynical, and Carrie was just one of those annoying "I have no man, my life is empty" bitches who need a reality check to know there IS alot more to life than finding a man and popping out kids. Samantha offered something different, exciting, optimistic, new, fun, vibrant. And I loved that she was older than the rest of them.
Bottom line - she loved cock and wasn't afraid to say it. That's what got to you the most.

no that's not true because Carrie also loved cock and I liked Carrie. Samantha is not a liberated woman, she's a fucking asshole slut.
Like when she was dating Smith and dumps him and goes up to a room to fuck this hotel mogul practically on his face, and when she's coming down on the elevator she has this tragic expression because she's thinking what I'm thinking, "who the fuck does something so fucking low??" well Samantha obviously.

Errmm....like Carrie did to Aidan when she went off fucking Big? Your argument is completely flawed.

as usual.

anyway. about the puns, yes. i still love the show but yes. there are definite moments where i think "oh god the cheese make it stop."
and one time carrie wore something that was so ghastly i was actually offended. she had a shirt (term used loosely) that came just below her boobs and a BELT on her BARE WAIST. unforgivable.
but anyway. back to the puns, and the amazing ability of christina aguilera to impersonate samantha:
