one of the best things about this show, as i see it, is that michael is supersmart, but not 'oh my god pleeeease ' kind of smart.
he's not random top secret spy insitute trained by blind rabi martial arts yogis in a windowless room from age seven till he was released into the world at age 20 to killl exotic terrorists with super gadgets kind of smart.
he's gone to college, learned a skill, worked as an engineer, we see him thinking, fucking up, having some bad ideas, but ultimately coming up with something really brilliant. so, real life smart.

and for the love of god he's not some forensic genius on the police force. GOD how many of those can we seriosuly have!?!?! *sigh*
