| | | Dexter I'm surprised there's not already a thread. When I moved in Feb I took 4 days off work to sort everything out and I wasted half of it watching this back-to-back. It's simply the best show I've seen ever, I'll buy the boxset when it comes out over here.
I'm not sure how I'd sum up the show for the uninitiated? Someone else have a go.

| | | Are you serious? I find it incredibly stale and banal. Poor acting and the story line and the characters are all surface. |

| | | I have been watching it because someone downloaded it and gave me the disc but I haven't become addicted to it yet.

| | | that's interesting, i think the books are bland and the show is quite interesting. i think Lila is just too, i don't know, trying-too-hard badass that it's a turn off. i haven't caught up to episode 6 yet so we'll see how it goes. the most interesting storyline for me is pretty much dexter fucking up and being thisclose to getting caught. |

I love this show, not flaming but I'd like to know what you think is a good TV series. It's not really an ensemble series, it's all about Dexter and the other characters are periphery. I do find Deb annoying but it's a well-played roll, I found Michael C Ball's character in Six Feet Under pretty irritating towards the end but I think he played it well and its the mark of a good acter when they can rile you like that.

| | I love the show (see: my avatar). The first couple of episodes in the first season were pretty slow, but it picked up after that. Season 2 is amazing. |

| | | Love the show so far, I'm finding Lila really fucking irritating though. They way she overpronounces her words makes me want to club her around the head. She also has a slight case of Drew Barrymore palsy mouth which doesn't help.

One of my favorite shows.
Damages, Weeds, Skins, This Life are others. |

| | | I loved the first series of Six Feet Under but it really deteriorated into sentimental guff towards the end. I was worried about Dexter losing the plot in a similar way, I've really been enjoying the second series so far. I do think it's weird how they've introduced the possibility of Dexter getting caught then put it on the back-burner for the AA stuff.
I think the Lila stuff is interesting (accent asside), I want to see how it develops.
I've kept meaning to check out Weeds, I don't think it's ever been broadcast over here so it passed me by (ditto Oz). I'll have a hunt for a torrent now.

| | | Spoilers up to 2x07: I really, really don't like the direction it's taken with Lila. They've played her & Dex getting together far too early and it's flattened her out as a character. She seems so cardboard now, especially after the end of the last episode. She seems like a mash-up of the worst parts of Nate's girlfriends in 6FO now, I guess we can't escape that comparison.
Similarly with Deb, she's gone from being an annoying character played well to just being annoying. I thought the bit with her hooking up with the gym guy was horribly unconvincing, so is her and the FBI guy.
On the plus side it's nice that the Doakes stuff is coming to a head, I think it's the best story going on and I want to see where it goes. He feels like the only convincing character other than Dexter in the series right now.

| | | i'm super sick and feeling like a bag of ass overhere, and then i discovered dexter!
i've watched the first 4 episodes back to back, and it's brilliant.
i usually HATE any sort of violence/gore, but the writing is clever enough that it changes things. the way Dexter's character has been created makes you sympathetic to his.. condition i guess you'd call it.
the only thing i haven't figured out is... aren't the other detectives going to become totally suspicious when dexter's sortof retarded sister-cop just happens to solve a bunch of murders, and dexter just happens to be there? i mean, luck only gets you so far.
and, wont the bodies Dexter disposes of eventually be found? won't those cases be investigated? or maybe that's the rest of the plot of the show. i'm only 4 episodes in, so, what do i know. |

| | Keeo watching Yeh, I did like how they manage to keep the violence understated, it means the few times something really graphic happens it works much better.
I did enjoy series 2 in the end, shame about the horrible dip in the middle.
