Basically, they are not going to release the movie whole. They are releasing 'Death Proof' and 'Planet Terror' separately and are not including the fake trailers that ran between movies.
The Weinstein Company is pissed because the movie bombed in the theater so they are going to screw over the fans. I can tell them exactly why the movie bombed, because most people don't have the time to sit through a regular length movie, let alone over 3 hours. Everyone I know was excited about this movie, and was planning on buying it the day it came out on DVD. Nobody would have minded if the DVD cost more than regular releases because of the length.
But somebody got the brilliant idea to be a petty, greedy, bastard, and fuck over the fans (it's not the double price tag that pisses me off as much as the fact that we can't even see the half hour of fake trailers which were supposed to be one of the best parts).
So in my humble opinion, the Weinstein's can go fuck themselves. I choose to boycott.
I am very sad about the fake trailers, but I know I will get Death Proof as soon as it gets out. And let's hope they release them together soon enough.
I was all wrong about this thread, I thought it was a boycott as in "let's ignore this saddistic over the line violent piece of shit" boycott but I was wrong.
Anyway I think it's great that it bombed but I'm sure some jackass will start a "grindhouse was way cool and ahead of its time" bullshit movement in the next few years.
That would make no sense, it's a 70's throwback. It wouldn't be ahead of its time.
BTW, stop trying to be a witty bitch.
well but that's what some people think. And the throwback thing was cool up until the late 90's. Grindhouse is like 30 years behind and just as lame, just like Kill Bill and shame on the people that were awed by it
Whatevs. I'll buy both of the expensive super pretty metal case versions from Best Buy for now because if there is a boxset it might not be for awhile. (Probably when The Machete comes out).
It's just like how I still bought both Kill Bills even though I knew they'd eventually be rereleased as a boxset (Amazon isn't exactly a reliable source though).

The Turner Classic Movies site confirmed that the new Kill Bill dvd will be coming out this Fall.
I already pre-ordered Death Proof, as I was unaware of what Best Buy was donig with the releases. I'll stick with what I got for now, but I'll be sure to get Planet Terror from there.
Abd speaking of the Weinstein brothers, here's the trailer for The Burning, the first film they produced that helped launch Miramax. It came out on dvd yesterday:
UGH. That's so fucking stupid that they're being released separately and without the trailers. I had a great time seeing this in the theater, but I'm not fucking buying either of them separately.
Also, Harvey Weinstein looks like this guy: and this guy: combined.

That's immediately what sprung to mind when I first watched it! Not a great film by any means, but certainly above Friday the 13th and has some of Savini's best effects work. It's also the cinematic debut of Jason Alexander and Holly Hunter.

The guy who got it in the throat is played by Larry Joshua, an obscure '80s actor I totally have a thing for. In Savini's first book of special effects (from the start of his career to Creepshow), all the pictures of Joshua getting ready for the scene are of him giving an overly smug smirk to the camera.
I should scan that section. It's all lovely and bloody.
