then i cant believe the fight between bluray and hd dvd and what companies are taking sides do you think they will keep both formats with dual players or one will die off or most people will stay with regular dvd.

will cd just die off to digital internet and phone mobile nonphysical product or will cd be replaced by super audio compact disc-sacd or dvdaudio discs and will both of those formats continue to coexist or will one close operations. |
i really do think its ridiculous. its basicly screwing over your customers. do they expect that people are sheepish enough to fork over more money just to get some exclusives? i dunno, i hope people arent that dumb.
as for bd and hd dvd. ugh ugh ugh... i saw the departed on bd yesterday (hurrah for knowing someone with a nice big tv and a ps3), and while i do think the picture is amazing. its not like i will go out and pay for two players (no way am i missing out on either the entire universal catalogue, or sony, fox and disneys catalogues.. not that fox and disney have released much anyway but w/e). personally i lean more to hd dvd, as i think it is ridiculous that the final bluray specifications arent even implemented yet and the non-region issue (nice when you live in a country where some movies hit the cinema after the dvd release in the us).
im looking forward to samsungs dual player later this year. but that will probably cost more than two standalones.
as long as you can get dvds for less than what bd and hd dvds costs they wont get to mass market adoption.
as for sacd and dvd-a replacing cd. i doubt it, that ship has sailed long ago. both launched in 2000 and look whats being put out on them: jazz and classical music... hardly top ten albums which could sway the consumer. im much more inclined to believe that diital downloads will kill off cds, but then again even with cds and downloads things are released on vinyl, hardly a format of convenience.
sorry about the hd rant, i just want it so bad i can taste it. but not bad enough to pick sides, nor invest money on something that potentially wont be playable in a few years (if one of the formats die). im such a fence sitter, heh
