Eli Roth To Direct Film Version of Stephen King's "Cell"

How did I now know this???

I randomly noticed that Eli Roth mentioned his future plans for "Cell" so I ran to IMDB to see if it was the Stephen King book ... and it is!

God, I hope this turns out well. We all know that Stephen King books tend to not work overly well on film (The Shining excluded )

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I have heard about it before, though it won't be happening for a little while. Eli threw a hissy fit because Hostel 2 bombed (and hard. People criticise Grindhouse, but Hostel 2 did even worse!), so he's going to keep to himself for a while, and said he won't start filming anything until Spring of 2008.

I'm sorry, but I have no interest in paying 10 bucks to see a movie where women get tortured and killed slowly in some warehouse in Prague. I don't get how that is supposed to be a fun movie-going experience. A trip to the dentists office seems more fun than all this nu-horror Saw bullshit. It's all so hollow and soulless, and I know that's probably the pointlessness that's the point, but ultimately, there's no message. Just gross-out crap.

A movie about a serial killer alone in a shitty diner for an hour and a half with no blood at all would be much creepier, scarier, and probably more profound than the cartoonish splatterfests of today. No one makes Hitchcock-horror anymore, and it's a goddamn shame.

Like the anime Paranoia Agent - one of the scariest, most fucked up shows ever, and the closest modern Hitchcock I've ever seen.
