| | | The New Movie All Purpose Discussion Thread This is a thread where we discuss movies we just saw in theatres...instead of making a thousand little threads labeled with the movie names...ok I'll start...
I just saw Hostel 2:
I have mixed opinions about this film. First off, I liked that it didn't have as much nudity as the first film. I also liked that this movie had a bit more gore, even though some was pointless and plain stupid, like the death of Lorna( I don't want to ruin anything so) but the whole idea was completely uncalled for, and is just completely a waste of 5min. The casteration though, was great....It's hard to hate this movie, but it's also hard to really like it.
The worst of all is though, that there was nothing in the movie "that would change the history of horror movies." Complete commericialism, and nothing more. it was a very predictable cliche` gorey horror film, and nothing more. |

So....
SPOILERS SO ONE BITCHES ABOUT IT:
A guy gets graphically castrated.
It's been done so much in many horror and exploitation films, from genre Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave, to blacksploitation (my memory is rusty, it was either Coffy or Foxy Brown) to forgotten '80s films such as Demented.
It's probably worth a dvd rental, but I think Eli Roth should just make Thanksgiving instead of wasting his time with torture films. It's a tired slice of horror genre that takes effort to pull off and is generally done as an excuse to throw in tons o' sex (such as the Ilsa series). |

Why do I know so much about male castration in films? But more importantly, why do I not tire of it and not-so-secretly giggle about it? I think I see it as retribution for all those poor gals in horror film history that get a machete to the head just because they wanted some hot '80s guy action. |

It's all true. Show me the wangs.

I firmly believe in Ted Nugent's motto: "When in doubt, whip it out." |

good news for you...eli roth has supposedly talked about making thanksgiving...but it would go straight to dvd...because I said the same exact thing on imdb, that I wish he just made thanksgiving, and someone gave me that information as a reply. |

| | | i watched the descent and i was blown away. well, first i was choked by the tension then blown away by the haunting ending. i loved the cinematography, lighting, so eerie and the monsters were genuinely scary. most of all, the actresses in the ensemble were perfectly cast, especially the roles of juno and sarah. they do a great job of persuading me to care for them and every fall, broken limb, decapitation feels like a shot. i didn't want any of these girls to die. the female tension in this movie is so thick that it makes this claustrophobic movie which takes place in a cave even scarier. love this movie. it may be my favorite horror movie after the exorcist. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
